Great Upgrade!
This chip was listed as questionable to work in a very old Dell due to possible bios conflict @ 50/50 chance. I took the risk and wow it worked. I went from 2ghz to 3.1ghz. I installed an SSD, 4gbs of Samsung ram and a new 1gb video card and my 8 year old dell runs windows 7 (up from xp) like a champ! Also put arctic silver 5 and polished the chip before install using same cooler setup. New thermaltake 380w power supply also. I think I got all upgrade parts for under $200.Read full review

Great upgrade
I was upgrading from a AMD Athlon 64 2650e. I hated that processor. This one gave me a decent performance boost. It did have a slightly bent pin when it arrived but that was easy enough to fix. The weird part was it wouldn't fall into the socket even though it was definitely an am2 socket. I had to start it at the corner and apply a small amount of pressure, then once it was in pulled it out to make sure i didn't damage any pins, put it back in with same process. Works fine. Downside is the stock cpu heatsink in the pc I don't think is rated for the TDP of this processor. I keep idling anywhere between 140-170(F) at 3.1 ghz, so i let it throttle itself down to 1.6 unless it needs the boost. If anyone is curious to know compatibility I installed this on an old eMachine EL1200-06w. Very happy with this upgrade. Using the machine as a basic routing server among other things.Read full review

Right for the price
Got the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1 GHz for Dell Inspiron 531s. This is the best chip available for this particular machine. The truest test for any processor is having it calculate processes outside its element: in my case the Playstation 2 emulator. While this processor will never replace the need to buy a modern computer; for the price, the processing speed is very close to running Playstation 2 emulator at a decent speed. That's saying something for machine over a decade old and running a heavy cpu reliant emulator.Read full review
