Amazing scope - but with one caution

The 8SE is a fantastic scope, but should never have been designed as a battery-powered device. Do yourself a favor and purchase a 12V/2A AC/DC power supply or one of the battery packs that Celestron offers. When the 8 AA batteries fall below about 11.5V the scope no longer slews correctly and all sorts of bugs develop, which for a newbie makes learning the feature set very challenging. Read full review

Issues not mentioned in the product description

The telescope was advertised as being in "good" condition. I assumed that meant that it was operable. The computerized mount does not work. It simply displays an error message when powered on and any of the input buttons are pushed. This happens with both the included AC adapter and a Power Tank-type battery that I have. Very easy to store. Set up. Transport around or carry.

This is a fantastic scope. The only minus is the fact that The 3mm locking screws on the star diagonal screw on tube are far too short and the knurled finger gripping outside ends are far too small in diameter. They need to be at least, ten mm long. Otherwise, I think it is great.Read full review

The 8SE is a very nice telescope that can be improved with some upgrades such as a better quality Diaganol and eyepieces. The OTA and GoTo control system are very nice.

Celestron SE8 best telescope for the money

Wonderful product!

This telescope is wonderful . We are a father-son beginner team and and it is advanced enough to pull us more deeply into the hobby, yet not too horribly expensive. We have since purchased accessories to simplify set up and positioning.

Great scope, not for beginners

This is an amazing telescope, but it is not easy to set up. It requires a lot of work to ‘zero’ - not the easy set up as the company states.

Bad quality control from manufacturer

Packaging is okay. Upon setting up the telescope, the horizontal directional buttons are not working. Big disappointment. Am contacting Celestron for help
