How to become a Certified Recycled seller

  • Apply to the CARE program.
  • Earn your Automotive Recyclers Association Certified Automotive Recycler (ARA-CAR) designation.
  • Successfully participate in physical and virtual audits.
  • Maintain program compliance and remain in good standing.

List parts that are still on the vehicle

Use the "Used – Part on Vehicle" item condition for eligible parts that are still installed on a donor vehicle when listed. After a buyer places an order, remove the part and inspect it carefully. If it meets your quality standards, ship it to the buyer. If it doesn’t, cancel the order.

This condition helps buyers understand that the part will be removed and inspected after purchase, so they know what to expect before ordering. It also gives you a more accurate way to describe eligible inventory that hasn’t yet been removed from the vehicle.

FAQs

  • What is Certified Recycled?

Certified Recycled is eBay’s program for qualified automotive recyclers selling recycled parts on eBay. Participating sellers can display the Certified Recycler badge and structured item condition information on eligible listings.

  • Is eBay the certifier?

No. eBay is not the certifier. eBay works with the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) and the United Recyclers Group (URG), and seller eligibility is based on industry-backed verification through the CARE program.

  • Do I need to be a member of the ARA or the URG?

Yes. Active membership in the ARA or URG is required to participate.

  • Do I need the CARE designation?

Yes. Sellers must have the CARE designation to participate in the program.

  • How do I qualify?

Qualification generally includes earning the ARA-CAR designation, meeting Quality Compliance Program (QCP) requirements, and completing the CARE audit process. Application coming soon.

  • What are the benefits?

Benefits can include the Certified Recycler badge, stronger listing visibility, and program-level support that helps build buyer trust.

  • What do I need to include in my listings?

Qualifying listings should include structured condition details such as item condition grade, damage code, location, and mileage where relevant.

  • Does certification mean eBay inspects every part?

No. Certification validates the seller and the grading process, not a physical inspection by eBay.

  • How do I stay in the program?

You must continue meeting program requirements and remain in good standing to keep eligibility.

  • When should you use the “Used – Part on Vehicle” item condition?

Use it for an eligible part that’s still installed on a donor vehicle when you list it. After a buyer orders, remove the part and inspect it carefully. Ship it if it meets quality standards; if it doesn’t, cancel the order. This condition helps buyers understand that removal and inspection happen after purchase.
