A Standard Measurement Mic for the Right Price

I currently use 2 of these, both plugged into seperate Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Digital Crossover systems. The are used as measurement mics and were designed from Behringer to be used with THEIR RTA rack equipment.

The beauty in a measurement microphone is that is it suppose to be a flat microphone. Now, anyone in the business knows that if a "flat" mic REALLY existed then it would cost $100,000 and it would only work on days that was 60deg at 12pm on Tuesdays where it was 34% humidity. Make that happen every day and we'll talk. That said, they're not flat. But if a company makes an RTA and also makes a measurement mic, then mate them please. dont use a AKG mic on DBX crossover... unless the company doesnt make their own mic...

This mic is nothing more than the precision instrument that makes the powerful tool like the DCX2496 fly. I use one in our sanctuary every Wednesday and Sunday. I use one to shoot rooms on our portable system, from gyms built in the 1940s to theaters to whatever! They deliver. They're they right price. But again, don't expect perfection, use your own judgement when shooting rooms, and don't expect it to out perform OR under perform mics that were designed for other RTA systems.

Why and why not?

This microphone is as pocket knife in Your sound regulation system, when it comes to the question of room measurement. The thing is - You can trust on your ears, but ears with mind are also the place of mistake. Ears are as microphones, which measure sound pressure, but the sound is made in mind. Human mind is adopting to any situation. When somebody tells you every day - " There I feel some ssshhh... .... sooner or later the mind will make that you "hear" it from everywhere, with mind, not with ears. So, microphone is used not to check your ears - with microphone you can recheck the mind. Music sound differs, when you are sad or vice verse.
The ECM8000 helps to go back to basics. It is good, solid steel made, the price is right, it has flat response for sound pressure. I use it any time I am in doubt.

Reference Microphones

I had worked with other sound techs and learned the value of a reference microphone. Using the Behringer ECM8000 I was able to ring-out the house and monitor EQ so that during the show I could push the hanging and individual performer microphones to insure the acoustic and lead parts were heard as well as the performers had the monitor they needed all with no feedback and virtually no ring. In fact one segment called for a microphone feedback in the script and I almost had to use FX to get the results as I couldn't boost my gain to get the effect. With the ability to get the ring out it created an environment where the performers could be heard clearly and the recorded results were the best I've ever gotten. On the last gig the director said it was the most professional sounding show she'd seen in the venue! The Behringer is the real price performer in my sound toolkit well under the Audix TR40s I've seen on ebay and results I can be proud of. I've got a couple more gigs soon in different venues and I can't wait to see - I mean hear the results!Read full review...

excellent equipment price is right does the job and then some

I had owned one a few years ago. I use it in conjunction with the Behringer 8024 active eq and feedback killer module. These two items work very well together. The ecm8000 mic is specially designed for this eq. The eq has a pink noise generator that is sent out through the PA to model the room. I am a professional musician playing in a local band. TRhis mic coupled with the 8024 eq is incredableRead full review...

Good value and versatile

The ECM8000 is certainly no Superlux or B&K but for this low a price it's hard to beat. Originally designed to work with the DSP8024, this condenser mic has a reasonably flat response and for a test mic has a few other uses as well. On recording overheads, a pair of them pick up cymbals nicely and I've even used it live on hi hats with good results. I don't think anything out there comes close for the price, thumbs up for this one!Read full review...

Gets the job done at the best price around.

I bought this mic to use with my Real Time Analyzer (RTA)/EQ. The mic works perfectly for this purpose (this IS after all what it was designed to do), but at a fraction of the cost of other RTA mics on the market. The dbx(brand) equivalent was the next cheapest alternative, at $100 (still a fraction of what you can spend on RTA mics). Unless you are a major recording studio I doubt you would need or could use the increased accuracy of the $500plus mics. This mic gets the job done for home studios, home theater, or audiophile grade home stereo.Read full review...

A real gem

This is a nice little Omni directional condenser mic suitable room equalization, real time analysis applications and room micing. This is my second one since I wanted to use a pair for stereo micing in addition to tuning my Nearfield monitors to the room. Behringer make some nice stuff a great price. Nowadays despite what anyone says Behringer stuff is excellent for the semi pro and home studio owner.Read full review...

Good Preformance!!

It has been quite a few years since I heard the word Dynamic
used along side a microphone! Here is one that deserves to
be regaled with just such a complement, revising just such
a description! It is a very very Hot and dynamic mic!! In
fact, while taking a break, we listened to the fleas on our
pet, in a Handel's choral arrangement, would be a colorful
description that would come close to getting the idea across!
Behringer seems to be able to deliver quality equipment and
keep the cost down to where the working person can still be
able to afford it! It's always good to find a value..
