Mac Pro 2010 - Still very relevant in 2016

Apple invested a lot of effort in the design and development of the Mac Pro tower series of machines (e.g. Mac Pro 1,1 through 5,1). Even some 6 years later, the design is still valid and remains highly configurable and receptive to many late-breaking upgrades. I was able to upgrade the unit I purchased on eBay with very fast M.2 SSD drives via PCIE adapters, enabling very high read and write speeds for the main system drive. The processors had already been upgraded to a pair of hexacore 3.06 Ghz Xeons, enough power to do heavyweight scientific computing, video editing and other processor-intensive tasks. USB 2.0 can be updated to 3.0 with cost-effective cards on the market.

Buy a used Mac Pro 2009-2012 machine today and you will be very happy!

Mac Pro 2010 5,1 Quad Core 3.2GHz

This is the tower of power. Once you add a SSD and install the OS (weather Mac OS X or Windows or both as in my case), this machine screams of performance. Starts fast, runs fast, and too big and heavy for anyone to hide under their coat and walk off with. Upgrading is super easy. Flip a lever and the side of the computer opens exposing everything. The ports in the front of the Mac Pro make it convenient to connect peripherals. The Apple Engineers really thought of everything. With the ability to easily upgrade, storage, media drives, video card, and even the CPU; this machine will have years of great performance for what ever you need it for.Read full review...

Maybe Apple's greatest computer

I have owned Mac 9600's, G3's, G4's and G5's. I just got a Mac Pro and I love it. You can put four hard drives in it, including the faster solid state drives. You can add a solid state drive connected to a PCI card that is even faster still. I have 64 GB RAM which is wonderful for Photoshop. I have two video cards and an audio card installed and still have an empty PCI slot. The twin processors are as fast as my new iMac but with two of them working I can do a ton of stuff at once-a lot of open applications, a lot of open pictures in Photoshop. Through all the generations of Mac computers I have enjoyed stuffing them full of faster hard drives, more RAM, lots of PCI cards. You can stuff more stuff into this Mac than any of them. It's even simple to upgrade the processor-just slide the old one out and the new one in. I love it. If you are the kind who likes to upgrade and tinker with your computer you will love this Mac. And it still runs Apple's current operating system. I have no complaints with this computer.Read full review...

A great machine.

It’s faster and much quieter than the 8 Core 3.0 2,1 that it replaced. It also runs much cooler. And the older-style towers like this are definitely a better deal than the new Mac Pros, not just because of the price - but because they have more features and means of expansion (PCI slots would be a major loss). Yosemite has a little to add compared to Snow Leopard. It is compatible with newer software (Logic Pro X runs great) and is very pretty, in a less-bubbly and more OS9ish kind of way. Overall, this is an impressive machine which will provide many years of service.Read full review...

The only way to really do audio

As an avid , rabid former Windows user, I could no longer take the hiccups , glitches and crashes I got from my Windows system during recording or mixing sessions.
What really bothered me was I could not figure out why most of these issues kept happening. Pilot error I can expect and accept. But when your system takes a dump on you for no apparent reason other than being turned on , it's maddening. Yeah , yeah I only used it for music. No I didn't download movies off torrents or watch porn. It just wasn't cool to keep building , buying , configuring a system rather than making music.
The Mac Pro has been so far amazing with its Core Audio system. That alone is worth the price of admission . No searching for the asio driver comparability crap . There's a reason pros use Mac Pro as their tool of choice for computing that must pay the bills. The thing just WORKS.

All Is Right With The World

Last year I replaced an iMac (which I bought new in 2012 with a MacMini of the same vintage and 2 months ago I replaced it with this MacPro because I upgraded the Mini's OS to Mojave and it was awful ever since.
This is one fine machine and I will never, ever upgrade from High Sierra. This computer is fast, quiet, cool running. I just added 4 USB3 ports so I am able to eliminate using 2 external USB2 hubs. It was simple to do, specially since the interior of the computer is spaciously open. Plugged and played..perfect.
I run it with 2 displays, 31" and 27" and also a Scansnap scanner a Brother printer the wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse from my iMac plus a wired mouse and a wired keyboard for whenever the batteries of the wireless ones run out in the middle of a sentence/project. Also a 4TB Time Machine drive. A Blue Yeti mic with headset attached, Logitech camera and several other bluetooth accessories.
I always wanted a Pro but could never justify the cost, now "All Is Right With The World", at least in my personal space.

3.46GHz Mac Pro custom built with competence

I am a set designer for the film industry and only the most powerful machine on the market will suffice to deal with the deadlines every day. I waited six weeks to write this review to make sure I had tested this machine enough to make a good assessment.

Leecher did an amazing job putting this custom machine together, using a top of the line Intel chip faster than anything Mac offers in its line up, running at a whopping 3.46GHz.

I added 32Gb of ram and a 512Gb solid state drive as well as a ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, all offered at very competitive prices.

The machine had Lion installed, which failed me miserably even after repeated fresh installs. Leecher also included the "original" Snowleopard disks with the machine, which saved me from disaster, thank you!!
Under SL the machine runs perfectly, starts up in seconds and tears through even heavy computations.

...next time I will get a dual processor ;)

Leecher is competent and professional and provided me with an invaluable tool at a competitive price.

Thank you,

Froderik

Only on a Mac

Yesterday I was editing some voiceover work and removing a ton of background noise in Pro Tools. While the track was bouncing, I was converting the fixed files in iTunes, then emailing them and even went online to purchase something else. If I tried that on my HP Z800 it would have coughed and given me the blue screen of death. Thank You Apple for making core audio work on several programs at the same time. Oh yeah, even with all of that going on, 63 percent of my machine was idle.
Love It, Windows will never haunt me again!!

Love my new old Mac. Works like a champ!

I'm writing this on the Mac now... I put in an SSD and larger drives, and it works GREAT! I'm delighted with this addition. I'm a Mac consultant so know my way around Mac hardware, and this was internally as spotless and clean as when it was brand new. A scuff or two on the outside but nothing to be concerned about. I'd buy from these guys again... in fact, I will, no doubt, and will suggest it as a good value to clients who can't afford a new Mac.Read full review...
