The sound is dull in comparison to Marantz

I tried to upgrade my Marantz SR7300 (DOLBY 6.1) with an amp that support DOLBY 7.1.
Therefore, I picked Yamaha RX-V861.
Unfortunately, the sound of Yamaha was dull in comparison to Marantz. I ran both amps in the same modes. Marantz definitely wins.
I have professional 22-band equalizers for each channel, but couldn't compensate the sound.
Probably, for many other users Yamaha sounds OK, but for my ears the sound is inacceptable.
Yamaha has a great user interface and nice design, but sound is worse than I had before with Marantz.
