for most of us, well worth a try.

very good condition for a b-stock receiver. one slight scuff on the display is barely a bother as u have to really probe to find it. bottom line, the box blows, k. chrystal clear sound with a very nice gui. it really puts out!!

the cec / hdmi ports work well with one annoying exception. i have a directv h21 box and that box is not sensed. i'm convinced the problem is with the directv receiver. it gets worse.

there are not many things to dislike. i learned today that these rx-v1065 models have an annoying sw / fw glitch that yamaha does not seem motivated to address. if u are using at least 2 hdmi ports and u turn off the rx while it is on hdmi port 2, when u turn the device back on it will switch tto hdmi 1. now this only happens when hdmi is enabled on both the tv and the receiver. course if u disable it on the tv then u lose the ability to control the receiver's volume with the tv remote. it's complicated but those who are familar with cec hopefully will understand. i miss the internal 120vac outlets that my rx-v1400 / v1300 had but that's an ez workaround. the uni-remote works well but if it's quirky when u want to use use the code and separater buttons for the tv. to program the tv u must select "phono" as input. if u don't have one, don't sweat this but if u paln to get one it can be a pain. i also have a v-667. it's manages that same issue a bit better and more intuitively.

i just played a bit of the blu-ray vid, "the dark knight" on it with my very simple 5.1 setup. amazing!! i've seen the movie a few times and thoroughly enjoyed what came out of my rx-v1400 but it's mind boggling with this pup! we're talking a fairly large room that opens up to many other rooms of the house. and just to add, i'm no 'phile. i have a bargain basement 100w 12" sub but some decent yamaha forn and rear surrounds. i configure the rears as large and the fronts / center as small. all lfe is directed to the sub. i sub is just under 40% volume but the floors shake - lots.

i traded up primarily because of the hdmi switching and i wanted a phono port. i really didn't think i be able to tell the audio diffs as my old box did not decode truehd or dts-ma. even with these old ears there was a very noticeable diff. channel separation is more disticnt as well - even when my position is on the left or right side. again, amazing!

granted these are very subjective comments as no measurements have been done. i also may have an unconscious bias since i've been using yamaha recvrs since the 90s. i did consider denon and onkyo but the reviews did not show a great diff betw denon and yamaha, so i stayed with the devil i knew.

there's certainly enough pwr so for the $$, i'm quite happy. never had one go bad and after seeing what lightening can do, i don't wast my time on surge protectors anymore. i just hope this one lasts cause i suspect, it'll be around for at least a decade.

Yamaha RX V1065 7.1 Channel Receiver

By far the best buy for the money in this price range.
With plenty of user-configurable settings, key options for all of the A/V inputs, not to mention the Bluetooth Dock and XM & Sirius features, this receiver lived up to the reviews read online, and those also offered by the CNET editorial staff.
I also like the individual options and volume settings available for the HDMI and A/V inputs, very handy; all available through the on-screen user menu.
I really appreciate the pass-through feature for the HDMI inputs! That way, the receiver does not have to be on to use other A/V devices.
For anyone looking for great value and plenty of options, not to mention excellent sound quality, this mid-level receiver needs to be on your checklist when your ready to compare features from several vendors.

Yamaha RX-v1065

Great reciever. I like that you can pass through HDMI to watch TV without having the reciver on. I dont like that there is no switched outlets on the back for my subwoofer, but not that big of deal.
