We have four of these, so far. They monitor the front and back and sides of our house. It pings my cell phone (tablet & computer can monitor it as well) anytime there is action or movement that it catches. Basically, it's pretty much just picking up kids running down the street, people walking and cars going by, but if we were to go on vacation it's peace of mind knowing that the house is safe. Planning on a fifth for the interior of the house so it can monitor the inside in the area where our pets (bunnies) will stay when we head out for an overnight. In addition to picking up people going by or cars, we have also picked up a coyote, a baby squirrel climbing on the house railing, caterpillars going up the glass windows. It's perfect for our usage. You can shut them off if you're in the room with it, and don't want to "tape" your conversation. Tho this feature does seem to be a little bit lacking. So the sound comes off or tinny of a sound. Hard to tell what folks are saying, which I find to be a positive, not negative feature. Sometimes when there's no noise going on, there's a creaky kinda sound that it plays. Not sure what it's picking up, but I think they all do it. This doesn't bother me, I'm using it to monitor would be robbers. Oh and there's a feature in the settings so you can turn the blue light off--on the front of it there's a blue (see attached pics) light to tell folks it's running. Bought this camera because of the price. The old adage holds true on this one, "You get what you pay for". 1st off, I couldn't create an account with Yi for some reason. Took 4 days of emails and finally a call to get it resolved. 2nd, scanning the Q code didn't work so Yi wanted me install an update on the camera. To install the update I followed their directions. I needed to erase my micro SD card and install the update on it. But now that it's erased, my computer won't recognize it anymore. After that I said screw it and I'll take an $18 loss. For the price, can't beat these cameras.
I've have several.
The app is easy to use.
The picture quality is fairly good.
I use mini SD cards instead of subscribing to the cloud.
A couple of my older cams (over 5 years old) have developed issues and I have replaced them.

Unnecessarily complicated... wait... hold...
Once you've figured out how to set everything, a simple power cut for a split second will have you re-do everything again which completely defeats the purpose of being away but being able to keep an eye out. It should re-set itself when it stays connected to power (like everything else does). Quality of picture is good. No remote panning or tilting.

Why it initially did not re-set after a power outage I do not know but after the last few outages (we get them a lot here) it DID re-set so with that, I have upgraded to 4 stars and a recommendation for purchase.Read full review...

Compare to the round shaped Yi Camera before buying

We have purchased three of these yi cameras. One that swivels controlled from the app and two stationary home cameras. All have worked perfectly. They have all been easy to set up. Once set up you can view and control them from the yi app. Two cameras are in another state where we can watch a property we own, and one at home watching our driveway.
