NICE TRACKS OVERALL, BUT SOME DISAPPOINTING
I gave an overall rating of "good" to this CD, but though good, it is disappointing in one respect. I purchased it, wanting recordings of authentic music from the Renaissance. Much of what's on the CD fits this description, but there are also tracks that sound "modern": a Renaissance tune on authentic instruments, with the players backed by a full symphony orchestra? A Renaissance tune that starts out traditionally, then segues into something with jazz overtones? Liberties have been taken with some of the songs on this CD by those performing them. You'll hear music from the Renaissance as it probably WAS heard several centuries ago, and you'll hear music from a Renaissance that never was.Read full review...
Good music never gets old
Very nice selection of music. Renaissance era music - played by todays artists, who soften it a tidge with more updated instruments along with some vintage sounds. Like it very much.
