*****Encourages my kids to read! They love it!*****

I've read all of the books in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series along with my kids. Well, I have to say that I understand why kids like the humor in these books but as an adult I can honestly say that I am tiring of them. It could be that Greg who is in middle school continues to experience the same lessons in different ways but doesn't seem to learn much about the lessons of life.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, Greg is on summer vacation and is writing his experiences down in another diary but this summer, he prefers to stay indoors playing video games. His mother tries to find ways to coax him outside to the pool which he hates or on various family and outdoor adventures. There is usually a problem along the way and Greg gets into trouble. Greg often includes his friend Rowley in his antics and doesn't always treat him with the most respect and Rowleys parents don't like that. The comics accompany each story add a nice touch and are the highlight of the series for most kids. I did enjoy Greg's excursion to the beauty salon where his mother drops him off for a haircut and he gets involved in the ladies gossip, gets to read gossip magazines and wants to go back again.

As a parent, I would like to see Greg learn more from his actions and show more maturity and emotional growth as he gets older. As a kid, they love that he gets away with things and gets himself into hysterically funny situations that he can't get himself out of.

My kid's thoughts: "I like that these books are funny and Greg has a good personality....he is kind of cool because he does funny stuff. I can't wait until the next book comes out!" He would rate the book at 5 stars for sure!!

My 11 year old son loves this series...

My son loves this series and really wanted to read this book. He says he wants the entire series. He has been checking them out from the library at school. He had been unable to get this book. A friend of his had the book and he wanted it really bad. He can hardly wait to see if there are more books to be released with these characters. He really likes this author and wants to read more of his books. We will have to work on getting more of them. I hope this author continues to write books he enjoys this much. It gives him a break from video games. There are not a lot of things he likes to read enough to skip playing his games.Read full review...

A good series for young readers and for adults as well

It's a good book for middle-schoolers. The characters and situations are funny and relatable, and the author does a good job of seeing the world through a 12-13 year old's eyes. Including the ways in which he's frequently blind to his own flaws or mistakes.Read full review...

Awesome for making kids want to read. Fun characters kids can relate to.

My six year old son loves this entire series. He is collecting each book one by one, and just finished reading Dog Days, which he greatly enjoyed. These books get him excited about reading. He will go to his room and read for a good hour sometimes, and then come out and be excited to tell me, in detail, about all the funny parts. Great buy to get kids excited about reading, even made my son want to write his own journal.Read full review...

Awesome book!

My 10 year old daughter LOVES the wimpy kid books; this newest one is all she asked for for her birthday. She finds them to be funny and quirky and she loves the drawings. She's always running out to whatever room I am in to tell me something funny that was written or to show me one of the many silly drawings. All of her friends read this series as well and they all equally love it; they also discuss the books they read with each other which I think is cool at this age. Jeff Kinney wrote another amazing book!Read full review...

No Frigging Idea but kid seems to love it!

My son is 9y old, loves the book, and I unfortunately do not have the time to read everything he reads. Personally I don't read anymore because I just don't have the time and there really is no point to it. I used to have more time before the internet, email, bill pay, etc. etc. Now I spend my free time pulling my child away from technology and electronic crapola. More parents should do the same all the time, every day, every second, every breath, because humanity is being robbed of anything worthy. There is no longer thought in action but instead action as a result of digital stimulus.Read full review...

My kid loves these books and actually reads them over video games!

Very funny book, my 7 yr old (reads on a 4th grade level) loves this series, he finished the first book in one day! Pages are about half words and half comics with word bubbles, which he reads and are age-appropriate humor.
Book seems long for a 7-10 yr old, but they read quickly enough so they won't get bored.
I will be buying the new ones when they come out!
