Angry,shouty little man ruins good film.

Oh no,they killed a classic but not all is lost. The plot is still good,the effects are great,the war machines are terrifying but its just a shame about the angry shouty little man(Tom Cruise) in the lead role who likes to lose the plot and shout 'Goddamn it!' a lot. Sadly,the producers seem to have turned it into a kids with issues film as well,the over riding 'we hate dad cos him and mommy split up' ruins the plot and detracts from the main story line so yeah all the screaming and shouting does ruin it. Anyway theres still lots of suspense,destruction,death,fire,things getting blown up by martian heat rays,panic,suspense,tension,atmosphere and like the original every one lives happy ever after. Give it a punt for a few quid but get the 1950s version,its much better. Read full review...

War of the Worlds 2005

As remakes of classic films go, when this first came out I totally hated it.

I recently watched it again & changed my mind about the film. It is after all a pretty good remake, keeping some of the classic quotes & of course, the special effects are much better than the 1952 film.

The 1952 film also keeps its charms & is also worth watching in my humble opinion.Read full review...

Of all the sci-fi movies out there this has got to be up there with the best, if not the best I've ever seen. Tom Cruise is excellent and compliments the movie and unlike some other sci-fi's there are no cheesy one liners that can sometimes make you cringe. The special effects are superb, breath taking at times giving the viewer an eye popping experience. It doesn't take long for the action to start and start it does. The first half of the movie is better than the second half but what a first half!!
