As 8-bit wrestling games go, this one's pretty cool.

When I was a kid in the eighties, wrestling was HUUUUUGGGEEE! We're talking pre internet here folks, people were mush more easily amused, especially 8-year old people. So when I heard that there was going to be a wrestling game made for my beloved NES that featured real fake wrestlers, I HAD TO HAVE IT. You'll see other eviews on here talking about how terrible this game is, or how difficult to control. The problem with these other reviews is these guys are comparing this game to like every wrestling game ever made. Instead, they need to be confining there commentary to other games of the same era. Now I'll admit, there were other games that were maybe a little more fun- Tecmo World Wrestling and Tag Team Wrestling come to mind, but COME ON, this one had the names! Hulk Hogan, Randy Macho Man Savage, Andre the Giant, Honky Tonk Man, Ted Million $ Man DiBiase, and Bam Bam Bigelow were all here! The only guy missing in my opinion was King Kong Bundy. Overall, you can't go wrong with this game for your NES. The best thing is it costs next to nothing on ebay these days, a buck or two at most. Go ahead and pick one up if you're an eighties wrestling fanatic, you won't be too disappointed.Read full review...

Age is a Factor

I'm willing to bet that most of the folks who give this game a bad review either never played it upon its release or are too young to remember it. If you had this game as a kid, you had the friends over playing with you. The WWF was at its pinnacle during this release, and Hogan was a huge icon. It didn't matter how smooth the gameplay was, you were finally able to play as your favorite wrestlers. For its time, this game was awesome and I remember being excited about how accurate the wrestlers looked in the game. A lot of good memories. Maybe you just had to be there during that time when the WWF was ruling America. Read full review...

OMG, Hogan is on the cover!! Oh wait, this game blows!

Very bad. Even if this game was made in 1985, it should have been a lot more fun. There is basically no fun factor, unless you enjoy watching mindless drones running across the screen like a chicken with it's head cut off. Another thing is that I've been having this game for all I can remember and I still can't figure out how to pin someone, thus making this game extremely hard to be good at. The control makes this game even worse. If you're not exactly lined up with the other wrestler you can't hit him. The wrestlers can only move up and down. There's only about three things you can do: run, punch, and kick. Your selection of wrestlers is limited to six, making it even less fun. Plus, they all control exactly the same. All of these facts put together makes this game sink to the bottom of the sea in the gameplay department.

Story
Wait, is there one? It could have fooled me. All you do is pick a wrestler and try to advance him to be the champion of the tournament. That's all folks. Very boring, in my opinion.

Sound
None other than Nintendos' famous beep and blip noises. Although the opening theme which happens to be Hulk Hogan's theme song, ''Real American'', is marginal at best, don't be fooled. There's beeps when you kick and blips when you punch. Using the mute function on your remote is not a bad idea while playing this game.

Graphics
Agggh. Another place where the game slides. Hulk Hogans' picture on the start-up screen is even blotched, so do you expect anything good? Where there's supposed to be the fans a big, black, blah looking wall represents them horribly. Each wrestler does look different, if that's what you're worried about. Also, for some odd reason, the wrestlers turn such a wonderful shade a pink after being constantly battered and beaten. That's about it for the graphics.

Replayability
If you play this game more than twice, power to you. Nothing but frustration comes from me when I play it, which usually ends up with a damaged controller or a scratch a my TV, which can be eliminated if you just do your self a favor and don't play this game.

To Buy or Rent?
The only reason I have this game is because a friend gave it to me for free, otherwise it wouldn't stand a chance. I'm surprised that I haven't sold it for the pennies that it's worth. Buy this game only if you have the patience of a saint or want to add to your collection. The only reason this game gets a 3 is because it is for the NES, which is not know for it's amazing games, except for a few. The only other words of advice I can give you is to avoid this game at all costs.
