Would like one on every tv in the house.
Works great, have a few Blu-Ray players with streaming and we setup a DNLA server. Wanted to test WD Play with the DNLA- and it was fantastic! Maybe a touch slow on starting the local stream from the DNLA server (about 10-15 seconds to play from selection sometimes). Otherwise fantastic, all the normal streaming services like netflix and hulu supported as one would expect, good stream quality and fast starts from the providers. It's $50 cheaper than most streaming devices, definitely recommend this! Especially if you have a DNLA server and are upset that your Roku opted to not support DNLA. Go Western Digital, going to replace my sony Blu-ray media players with the WD Play now. I do wish it supported VOB playback (4 of 5 starts for not supporting direct dvd flies and slow DNLA start), but if you are encoding your library properly you will not need VOB playback. Western Digital WD TV HD 1080p Media Player WDAVN00BN Video Playback with Remote
None of the video formats would play. "Can't play video format" would appear for avi, mp4 and mkv video formats. Will have to research and try to fix when time permits.

Plays network content
I purchased this device to play movies that I have on my network. It is really easy to use, and plays directly from a network share such as a samba share with ease. A fantastic product.

Still a good device.
I had previously bought an Androset 1080P. Wow I could even get the Androset to power up. The remote was almost like a child's toy, most children's toys work better.
The WD is just plain better quality. The remote is simple and quality. It literally just worked right out of the box. And the unit I bought was used, but still worked great.Read full review...

I have them hooked up to every TV in the house
I bought most of them 5-6 years ago at the same Best Buy Store. When I came to the same store to buy one more for my friend this summer NONE of the employees had any idea what I was talking about!!!! They never heard about WD TV period!!!! This is probably now the only electronic item which now costs more, than it was laying on Best Buy shelves! They disappeared like everything good you dot used to... Read full review...
This media player did not function like it was supposed to.
When I started using this media player I noticed that the file content from my external hard drive being shown on screen was very limited to a few entries. No matter how many times I updated this file it only shows this number of entries. So it was useless for me if I could not update the number of entries on screen. I never used it again. I just wasted my money. It does not show all the contents of the external hard drive. I bought this product so I can view contents from my hard drive and this media player failed to do that.Read full review...
Functional
Older unit. Sometimes it reads from an external drive, sometimes it doesn't. Takes a while before the files show up on a network drive. No subtitles on this version. Other than that it seems to be performing o.k.Read full review...
