Rediscovering the joy of reading with Anne Rice

When you stop to think about the number of hours we have been subjected to by Reality Shows, News shows which bombard you with fear and negative sensationalism... you wonder what ever happened to the joy of reading?

I chose to cut out all the surperfluous junk in my life. I rediscovered the joy of reading, beginning with Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire.

It set me off on a journey of reading every book I could get my hands on. Whether about Vampires and Shapeshifters or Historical novels, Romance or Sci-Fi I'm hooked again.

No longer do I feel bored at break and lunch times at work... I fill those moments by going "somewhere else". I look forward to sitting in waiting rooms or when television no longer offers me what I might be interested in.

The best part, is you can recycle those books so others can enjoy them as well!

This book was well thought out. It is timeless. You could read this one in 20 more years and find it every bit as magical as when it was first written.

It of course, prompted me to dash out and buy the rest of her vampire chronicles. Not to mention a bunch of other writers' works.

This one isn't like the Sookie Stackhouse series, it's much deeper and not about the glam of having a relationship with a vampire. It addresses the internal struggle the vampires have as they live throughout the ages. More over, about their own morality with who they have become.

Plainly said, this one lets you experience New Orleans, Paris in ages past and you get to leave your present behind for awhile, seeing life through the eyes of Louis her main character, as he tells his story.

Interview With the Vampire - philosophy or fantasy?

Even in the early pages of the novel, Anne Rice raises questions about life, death and something in between. Her perspective of not only the concept of eternity, but also what it means to life one full human life is astounding if not far beyond any common imagination. Her definition of what if means to be human is a common theme and again is prevalent from the first few sentences to the very last word.
If you're interested in a traditional, trashy vampire novel - this is NOT it. Instead, I find more philosophical analysis of the depth of feeling, repressed emotions, and the undying fact that, human or not, we all want to feel loved.
And though I will admit there is a bit of gore, blood-lust and other archaic vampire themes, Anne Rice portrays it with a finesse that somehow makes the reader appreciate the added violence and cruelty, if not imagine it as a graceful and inevitable consequence of the characters' "condition."
The movie, however, is only superficially reminiscent of the themes present in the novel. MOST of the characters are present, but not all minor ones. The depth present in the novel would be impossible to exemplify in cinematic form, and so overall I would give the movie about a 3 out of 5 as far as compatibility with the novel is concerned. Appreciate the character's come to life, but do not expect the full show, to put it simply.
Overall, I would estimate this novel to about a 4.5 out of 5 in my opinion. But hey, that's just what I would say.

Great book about vampires

I love this book. The story is so realistic and I really feel like I know the main character, the autor provides really deep look into his soul. I think that this is the best vampire series and everyone who is into vampires must read it.
It's easy for me to read although English is not my native tongue.
I only expected better condition for "very good", but it's very nice for 1988 edition.

The Human Side of Vampires

Anne Rice's novel Interview With The Vampire is not your ordinary vampire horror story. The characters of Lestat, Louis and Claudia are deep, dark and sensuous figures which form their own dysfunctional vampire family. The characters have very human flaws for vampires, which makes them believable and unforgettable. The scenery has such detail it makes you feel like you've been to New Orleans. The book is told from Louis's point of view. My favorite aspect of the book of course is Lestat, the leader of the group who will do anything to keep Louis at his side.Read full review...

Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice

I am a huge fan of anything that has to do with vampires, and have been ever since i was a little kid. Anne Rice takes it to a new level and doesn't disappoint like the many horrible vampire movies and books out there. She is a true master of the literary arts. i could not put this book down wanting to read on and on to see what happens next.

Epic book one of my favorites.

Modern day classic!

Great book! Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" is a modern classic. The characters are fantastic. Vampires are so popular now - but this story out shines "Twilight", "Vampire Diaries", etc. by leaps and bounds in my opinion. If you know someone into this genre that has not read this yet - send it their way! There are no disappointments. It left me eager to read the rest of the series. (Not to mention the fantastic movie based on the book!)Read full review...
