Good series

I read the books first, so I already visualized in my mind what I thought the characters would look like, and with the exception of Pam, Longshadow,Sam and Lafayette, Season 1 kind of let me down in that regard. I thought the people portraying the characters were just average in looks compared to what my mind conjured while reading the books by Charlaine Harris.

I thought Bill would look well, hunkier. I just don't find him attractive at all. Sorry Anna! I also thought Sookie would be sexier than the sweet, girl-next-door look of Anna Paquin, although she plays her very well. I must admit that I kind of pictured Eric as a big hunk of luscious, deep-voiced Viking, not the trim and thin man they have portraying them.

The series is good, although it deviates from the storyline of the book in places, which is understandable in order to flesh out the storyline for a weekly show. I strongly encourage everyone to read Charlaine Harris's books, starting at book one of the Southern Vampires series, Dead Until Dark.

I bought season 2, and will no doubt buy all of them to complete the set because they are entertaining, and is worth the money. I also like the way the DVD case is set up to hold the 5 discs, then folds up neatly and slides in the outer sleeve.

The New Vampires

My wife won this on ebay. She loves it.She convinced me to watch it so,I did. It's a film noir style mystery set in Louisiana. Its well acted episodic plot kept me interested for its whole length.Word of caution this aint fer kids. This series gleefully wallows in all kinds of depravity.Blood, gore, and brutal killings galore.Necrophilia and any perversion one would care to mention. It is truly an evening of guilty pleasure. Now,call me old school but what happened when vampires were considered totally evil and were fit only for destruction?Maybe its the current trend of political correctness that says everyone is included even the living dead?Vampires are no longer monsters. They are just like yer good ole boy neighbors except that they're dead.It would be interesting to talk to a vampire that had been around since the Cival War and get the low down on what really happened back then. But does anyone contemplate the spiritual implications of acknowledging the existance of Vampires much less accepting them as fellow inhabitants? And why would you? When the majority of them consider humans ie. mankind on the same evolutionary scale as cattle,a food source. While at the same time they consider themselves to be more highly evolved.I've got news fer ya Sunshine they aint showed me nuthin'.No spirtual or intellectual enlightenment. And despite their strengths they are very flawed as a group of sentient beings. On top of that the humans enter into relationships with these creatures.Come on now, does'nt the idea necrophilia creep anybody out just a little?Any way I digress buy the 1st season it's a guilty pleasure for sure. And it'll be a real fun ride.
best regards,and enjoy.

True Blood is eerily surreal & worth the buy for vampire loving adults

As a movie buff and a lover of vampire movies, HBO's True Blood has been high on my list of series I must-watch. I have loved other vampire series, and this one is great so far. It is not, however, for younger audiences. There is nudity and there are sex scenes, and violence for adults only.

The acting is superb, and the entire eerie setting in which the show takes place makes viewing True Blood a kind of surreal experience. I recommend this for all adults who enjoy a good thriller, mystery vampiric vibe.

sookie.. suthern pronouncement suckie. lolol

Since I am a true fan of the Twilight series books, It was thought maybe I would like these more adult vampire books and dvds. I was told that the True Blood series was just an adult version similar to the Twilight series. Ok, I bought the first 9 books, and then ordered the first season. First off, let me tell you that these two series of not only dvd's but books are nothing at all even remotely similar to each other. Well maybe they are both written around two girls.. and they are dealing with vampires. that's it.. the end. I have gotten into the true blood stuff now.. and even tho sometimes it can leave ya a little ucky feeling. the gore is overdone, the language is unnecessary mostley and the sex is kinda weird. lol, to say the least. They are still pretty good stories . I am impatiently waiting for the second season of dvd's to be available. cuz it sure left me up in the air wondering about this character and then that character. I really like these stories, but they can never replace the other Vampire series.Read full review...

If you like vampires then True Blood is the show for you.

I have to admit, the vampire craze kind of baffled me. I was never really a fan of Anne Rice and I couldn't get past the sparkling vampires of Twilight, so I was pretty surprised when I read and discovered how much I enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse novels.

So I decided to give the television show a chance and I wasn't disappointed. While the show doesn't follow the books page by page, the changes they made don't hurt the story and often make the more dull moments in the novel interesting. The story is interesting and handled well, and while I feel some moments are incredibly cheesy - it's in a fun way, not a "I can't believe I paid money for this crap" way.

The vampires act like vampires, the action scenes are fun, the actors are very pretty and it's a widely addictive show. Who could ask for more? If you like vampires then True Blood is the show for you.

Can't wwait for Season 2!

The show was put together good... the charters were played good... I loved the fact that they brought the books that I read to life, but I did not like the fact that some of the story lines were way off. If I would have never read the books, I would still Love the show... but reading them, then watching the show, I could not give it an excellent. If it was more true to the saga, I would give it the highest rating possible. I have to say though, I have my husband & daughter hooked on it now. They have never read the books, and love the show.Read full review...

True Blood - The Complete First Season

A popular (I Guess) HBO series, although I cannot see why. The dialogue is trite and obviously conceived on the laptop of a hack B adolescent Hollywood screenwriter. Hard to figure out the audience that this production was geared for. The writing, dialogue and plot are obviously aimed at mindless adolescents but the series has several nude scenes which should eliminate that audience, so as far as I can figure the audience is those who are over 18 physically (With a public school education) and under 16 mentally (This way the plot and dialogue will make logical sense).
I bought it, saw it and sold it. (Thankyou Buyer) In short True Blood is True Garbage. The only thing that could be worse than True Blood, the first season, will be True Blood, the second season. Spend your money on the better HBO series ie: Rome, Deadwood, Soprano's, Carnival etc.
But hey, if you are pushing a double digit IQ and want to see Scooby Do tangle with the vampires; then go for it.

True Blood Does Justice to the Books that Gave it Life

Charlaine Harris' books about Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic bar waitress, have created a Southern town 'peopled' by vampires, shape-shifters, were-animals, kind souls and haters. Alan Ball used this world created on the page as the basic ingredient of the HBO series TRUE BLOOD. Ball has added extraordinary casting, talented episodic writing and remarkable directing to animate the engaging story lines from Harris' books making a series of character-driven tales that are sexy, frightening, mysterious and addictive TRUE BLOOD is not an exact representation of the Sookie stories, but a series adding the genius of Alan Ball and his creative team to color and bring life to characters who range from charming to deranged. The first season bridges the expectations of readers who are Sookie fans to the visible and viewable world of Sookie Stackhouse. Ball has done credit to Harris' amazing creation and TRUE BLOOD benefits from the genius of each.Read full review...

Best series ever, amazing show. Awesome HBO total hit!!

You can't miss this great TV show hit, it's fantastic, the best TV show of the world.

I love this show... If you buy this episode you might as well buy season 2 while your at it. I compleatly recomended this serie, is a really good. I was skeptical at first but really enjoyed it.

This is an excellent story that only HBO could have. You need to give it a couple of episodes to really get into it but once you do, you're hooked. I can't wait for the 2nd season! Though once again beware that it has very explicit scenes and strong language and I know some people can be very offended by it, so it's not for everyone.

True Blood - HBO 1st Season Series!

It's a pretty good series so far. I am only 1/2 way through tough. Yes, I do continue to look forward to the next show when I'm finished. If you like vampire flix you will like this. Personally UNDERWORLD is my favorite though. The story, the special effects, and Kate looks great in the leather:-) There has got to be another one created!!!

Looking for a series to watch though. "SPARTICUS" on the Starz network. Gladiators, and special effects are awesome. Kinda like the movie but longer and addicting!!! WATCH IT!
