An excellent upgrade for older laptops needing an updated PATA drive.
I bought this drive used but in good condition to upgrade an old Dell Latitude D400 laptop which had plenty of life left in it but needed a performance boost.
The original drive had only 30GB capacity and ran at 4200 rpm with a 2MB cache as I recall and this drive runs at 5400 rpm without using any significantly increased power (something to be careful of because of possible overheating in the confined space) and has a whopping 16MB cache. The boost in performance was certainly apparent and increasing the memory from 1.25 GB to the full 2 GB (1 GB RAM bought new on ebay for ~ £13) completed the task and made the improvement very obvious. Running XP SP3 by the way. Newer versions of Windows need more RAM than 2 GB.
I would fully recommend this drive, despite the faster speed it is no noisier, and I wanted to buy a respected reliable brand such as Toshiba for peace of mind. All round, very happy with this purchase.Read full review...
