The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason

I bought this book when I was a teenager on the advice of an accountant friend. I later lost the book, after reading it. I liked it so much I bought it a second time. I love this book for many reasons. My favorite thing is that it is told like a fictional story - an interesting novel to read. So I was never bored at any point during the story, which is so often the case on books about money or finance. This book is excellent because it is not fluff. It is not a bunch of lies or get rich quick way out schemes. It is solid business and personal finance advice. It does not take long to read it. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to get some good basic advice about the handling of money. This book falls more into the general advice category. This is a good addition to anyone's library. Advanced business people might find it too general, too, "yes I already know all that stuff"... I highly recommend this book.Read full review...

Best book as a gift to give anyone

I gave this book to a friend as I have a copy myself. Over the week end they read the first 2 chapters and already wants someone else to get a copy. This book should be read by every teenager in their senior year of high school.Read full review...

Excellent is not good enough

This thin book is a MUST for anyone's library. There are seven rules to money and all of the other books on money spin off from this one! Thsi book has a very good concept, that says you can work ANY job and become rich!

I had a question I asked myself as a kid. That was. "How come I am seeing so many hard workers and yet they are dieing broke?" Well this book answers that question and much more.

If I am ever lucky enough to have kids, then they are getting a copy of this book every year until I boot them out of the house.

This is the only book that I offerred to pay a 22 y/o with 4 kids to read.

TO REPEAT:

EXCELLENT is not a high enough rating!!!!

I am not selling my copy of this book!!! NO WAY!!!!!!!

Thanks

Read this book, then share it with others!

This book is HIGHLY recommended. I would suggest you buy this book for anyone who just graduated high school or college. In fact I would buy this book for anyone who might think about getting a credit card, or retiring someday. Or even better yet, buy this book for anyone you know!

Basic Idea:
1. Save 10% of everything you earn
2. Pay off all of your debts, and don't get into new debts
3. Invest the 10% you saved so it earns a return, then reinvest that return
4. Don't invest in foolish things that might make you lose your principle invested

Great book, easy read can finish in a few hours even as a slow reader like me.

The Richest Man in Babylon

I brought this title because I have read it previously. I also use the book as a tool for financial workshops.

It is a wonderful tool for everyone to have in their possession. If people would apply the simple principals mentioned, this society would not be the debt ridden society it has become.

The money principals cited in this book was true years ago when the book was first written, and still holds true today.

The phrases/language used may be a bit of a challenge for some readers. However, the story is about ancient times.

excellent intro to wealth building

An interesting style of informing you of some of the TRUE basics of becoming wealthy, the 'hero' decides to ask a childhood acquaintance how he became the richest man in babylon and is told 'the secrets' to success.I belive this little book should be required reading at about age 10,so that every child has a guide post for financial success that tells them it can be done and these are the ways to go about it.Would also like to see this book in the hands of everyone no matter what age.Find a copy and read it,you will be glad you did.Read full review...

Inspirational and Motivational Dept Freedom

I'm 61 years old and I've been reading this book over and over for more that 30 years.
This is not the kind of book you read once and put on the shelf and simply say "I read that book."
I recommend this book for anyone Junior High and up, we need to plant the seeds of success early.
In reading this book I believe you too will be motivated as was I to improve how you handle your money.
The story as the title suggest takes it's setting in old Babylon and is written in an old english style.
Babylon which was reportedly the richest city ever and this story centers on the richest man in that city whose name is Arkad. It follows him on start of his journey as a humble scribe who desires more than he had and a better life for himself and his family. Until one day he chances upon a "Wise Old Sage" who shares with him the pearls of his past and plants the seed of hope in this young scribes life. But Arkad is not alone on this journey, there are others and best of all, we get to tag along and share in this wisdom.
This book will lead you down a winding path where you will meet several differrent characters and see how they too fared. What will be your story? How will you fare? Will you pass it on?
