Great story line, but only OK graphics

I am use to PC graphics (and older consoles).
For fun factor, I had much more fun on simple older consoles, todays consoles just don't get that tilt factor for me. After saying that, I will get into this review of PS3 Version of 'The Darkness'
Actually this review can be wrapped up pretty simple, the story line is very good.
It makes you feel as though you are following a movie story line (at times this can become repetitive and boring. But there is enough story line to get you through the dialog.
It plays partially like a FPS and maybe a cross between a poorly done RPG game.
Granted, the game is geared for ACTION.

The poorest part of the game, which is not the gameplay, would be the graphics (I have seen 4 and 5 year old PC games look much better. But some of this is because of the scenes you are playing in (obviously the darkness).

For kids under the age of 17, I would NOT recommend the game, as the gruesome nature the gameplay takes.
With 2 demon arms that come out, and not as cool looking as graphically it could have been, but gross in its own right.

On a scale of 1 to 10 for replay factor I would say a 6
For graphics (even PS3 graphics) I would say no more than a 5 1/2.
But the best as stated would be story line (as it is mob style) and would give it a 8 out of 10 (for first time play, and -1 after)

Recommended, but for mature audiences, as well I would recommend watching the trailer before purchase.
Also it will have less tilt factor for others, so I would wait for a used copy on eBay.

Hope that helps. ;)

With great power comes great brutality.

June 25, 2007 - In the '80s, the comic book industry turned its back on four-color supermen in favor of dark and gritty anti-heroes. That trend continued well into the '90s, with new superstars blending the line of good and evil. No more clearly was this seen than in Marc Silvestri's The Darkness. Jackie Estacado is a man cursed with a birthright that emerges on his 21st birthday. The Darkness, a primeval force, uses Estacado as its vessel to cause mayhem in New York City. Estacado's only claim to heroism is that as nasty a guy as he may be (he is a mob hitman, after all), he's killing men who are even more evil.Read full review...

Worth checking out, capisce?

This game is pretty fun. First of all and this is very important, the voice acting is superb. As a matter of fact, they spent so much on the talent, the characters lips/mouth movements for speech are very poor, but it does the trick. The characters are colorful and interesting and the protagonist is refreshing. I recommend this game to anyone that wants to try something a little bit dark, different and likes the whole mob theme. Even if you don't you'll probably like it, but don't hope for an awesome shooter. In that respect this game doesn't deliver, but it is none the less, good fun.Read full review...

Pretty good Story, Fun Elements Like Devouring Hearts.

The Beginning of the Game is pretty cool.
Your a passenger in the Back seat of a Car running through a Tunnel, You eventually have to shoot from the Passenger seat after the Previous Passenger meets a wicked demise... Cool.

So you Die and Become Possessed and gain these Doc Oc type arms with Demonic looking heads on the Ends. To rejuvenate your darkness power you Devour Hearts, which is really cool. Sometimes the Two Heads will fight over the heart, the Right seems to always win the Fight.

The Darkness Powers are Wicked Cool.
The Crawling one took some getting used to.
The Black Hole one that Sucks every enemy around it in is Overpowering but Soooo much fun to watch.

The Darklings are really neat as well. One Runs into crowds and blows himself up. One has a machine gun, another will go knock out the lights for you (darkness helps you maintain your darkness power)

The Guns in the Game were not that special but it did not bother me because I prefer to kill most enemies with the excellent Darkness Powers.

The Graphics are top notch and the Voice acting was pretty good for most characters.

Truly underrated game! More fun than anticipated!

If you like games with a good story line and lots of different outcomes to a story, you will love this game! Great movie clips and cut scenes! There is literally a full old school movie in this game! This game is difficult to pick-up, but after awhile you will love it. Only downfall is, this game is like it's title DARK. Not much daylight involved in this game and literally sometimes becomes hard to see! Overall I recommend this game to the serious gamer looking to spend a good 40 hours!Read full review...

Amazing!

The darkness is by far the best PS3 game released yet. I admit I'm not a big sports fan so that eliminates a few of the big hits, and Oblivion was nothing short of amazing, but in short, I bought my PS3 in early December and the hot games released have been far and few between. Resistance: Fall of Man was awesome, without out a doubt, but it is yet another first person shooter. Oblivion was a GREAT roll-playing game, but I've had it on PC for almost a year so it’s nothing new. There were a few movie games that had a few hours of game play, but nothing came close to the over-all quality coming with The Darkness. Not only does the game grab you out of your seat like a super-sonic roller coaster, but it keeps you hooked with no stop action and PS3 deserving game-play. Throughout the game the unbelievable graphics and heart-pounding storyline keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you begging for more. If there’s one undeniable must-buy for PS3, or even Xbox 360, it is undeniably The Darkness.Read full review...

The Darkness is Cool

The Darkness is a very good FPS with an original story and excellent graphics. The voice acting and atmosphere are top notch and really help make for a good game experience. The negatives are the darkness powers for the most part aren't needed once you get black hole, there is the creeping and the whip power that are useful too. The darklings are fun to watch and listen to but, worthless for the most part. I recommend give this a game a plat through for sure. Online is a waste.Read full review...

Superb paranormal mob story with run-and-gun action

The Darkness follows a man on his 21st birthday as he uncovers paranormal facets of his life and tries to complete a hit for his mob boss. Of course, the hit encounters a hitch in the opening scene. The gameplay is slightly reminiscent of Alone in the Dark, another early PS3 game. Players run and shoot in a series of action-oriented levels. If you enjoy games like Alone in the Dark, I'd recommend this game to you. The story alone is worth the price of admission.Read full review...

Exactly what I ordered

The game runs fine so far. Like with many of my other purchases, I was feeling a bit nostalgic so I bought this. The disc looks very good and I haven't had the game crash on me or freeze.
