Great retro game

The 2-player co-op and battle mode are what sets this apart from other Tenchu games that came out at the time. It still holds up well today for the gameplay factor. The graphics are dated but not terrible and don't detract from the overall greatness of this game.Read full review...

Epitome of Stealth/Action Games

This is the absolute epitome of stealth action games. A wide variety of tools to take down your foes, multiple characters to play as, each with their own play style, and different layouts and difficulty levels for extreme replayability. This game is intense and fun all rolled into one package. A definite buy for anyone wanting a good story line with excellent gameplay. Camera can be a bit quirky but it just takes some getting used to. Action is solid and plenty violent for those who are into being immersed in a game.Read full review...

A Real Ninja Game With All The Aspects Of Being A True Ninja

This is the best ninja game that’s been made in the PS2 era, it emphasizes the true aspects of the ninja culture when it comes to stealth and deception during missions. There’s been other ninja games like ninja garden, shinobii etc... but those games are more action oriented which isn’t true gameplay when it comes to stealth and illusion when talking about ninjitsu.Read full review...

There is no finer ninja game!

First off let me say that I REALLY enjoy this game. The replay value is very good as there are three characters and it is so much fun trying to get through levels without being seen and seeing those cool animations when you stick your sword through an unknowing enemy. You get your choice at first to play as either a man or a woman, later on another man is added. If you've played Tenchu before you will recognize the characters, except the extra "secret" character. The graphics are pretty good, but they were GREAT when this game first came out. The sounds are great, the background music is Fantastic and the controls are good. The game presents a pretty good challenge in the later levels and has an interesting story line.

The only REALLY frustrating thing about this game is that sometimes the camera does not behave in a way that makes it easy to finish your mission without being noticed. You can control that camera to a degree, it is just very tough to do while moving. The only other thing that isn't the best is the enemy artificial intelligence. For a beginner it's okay at first, it gives you a chance to get used to the game. After a while though, it just makes it a little on the easy side. The enemies keep moving in the same path over and over again until you put them out of thier boring existence. But that is all I have for gripes with this game.

Love the old school ninja

Now-a-day, people are all about the hyped up graphics and flashy superficial type games. Back in my day we played for substance! This game has fiber!

Tenchu is about infiltration and strategy while still kickin' butt. In the dark. With a blade. If you are familiar with Solid Snake, you will catch on to this well I'd imagine.

Things I like/don't like:
The characters are awesome! You can play as a male or female ninja- They are equally useful in different things. I love how they balance each other out. Personally, a big plus for me, considering I value agility over brute strength especially in stealth based games. I advise playing both to get a feel for the differences.
The layouts are all feudal Japan style. Snowy bamboo forests and maze like structures and fortresses. I notice good detail too, like a Hercules beetle making it's way up a tree.
The weapons are awesome. There are limits to how much you can carry, which is realistic and forces you to pick carefully. Personally, the blow-darts and the sticky bombs are instant favorites. Aiming from a distance works excellent for the most part but you can't fire too close to nearby objects like under roofs or between bamboo, other wise the projectile won't go far. The grappling hook will tell you if it can be reached. Unfortunately the other items don't.
The camera is always the biggest obstacle in games. If I can't get the angle just right and see what I'm doing quickly I get disoriented and it's frustrating. In this game that particular feature is okay, not frustratingly terrible but I did get used to it after a few levels. It allows you to look around corners without being seen. If you are crouching on a rooftop, you have to move your whole body in order to change the view. Only when standing can you scan the surrounds while remaining still. Camera problems became 30% easier once I attended the ability Ninja Vision which allows you to zoom in long distances and bestows more freedom to scan your surroundings.

Overall the game appeals enough to both my need to kill and problem solve that I give it an Excellent.

NOT PS3 COMPATIBLE

Unfortunately I should have researched more thoroughly. This is the one Tenchu game that isn't backwards compatible.. It's a shame because it is a really great game. The characters and animations on the stealth kills are really great.Read full review...
