The Versus Series is Back with a Bang!

Fans of Marvel vs. Capcom and Capcom vs. SNK will probably pick up Capcom's latest endeavor - Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

I want to quickly point out, to the Marvel vs. crowd especially, the difference with this game. First off, you can only have 2 playable characters, and there is NO third support character. Secondly, the control scheme is highly simplified. I'm not sore if this was done for the Wii audience, or if they just thought it would be a good idea.

In any case, the game shines in stunning 3D, even on the Wii platform. I'm a little disappointed that Capcom chose to cross over with a relatively unknown anime publisher outside of Japan (knowing they would release the game to a global audience). The few recognizable characters I have seen on the Tatsunoko roster include the heroes and villains from Gatchman (known as G-Force: Guardians of Space in the US [not to be confused with that stupid hamster movie]).

Of course, the Capcom side is loaded with fan favorites such as Ryu, Morrigan, Chun Li, Megaman, Viewtiful Joe, Frank West from Dead Rising (US Version Exclusive).

I thought it was a very interesting choice on Capcom's part to release the game exclusively on the Wii, but it's a minor complaint considering how well it plays on the Classic Controller. You can also buy a Hori-brand Wii fighting stick which I highly recommend for the avid fighting gamer.

Overall I think the game delivers on so many levels. Graphically it's outstanding for a 2D-fighter (rendered in 3D), especially on the Wii (the weakest console platform). It's fun, there's a ton of characters, and the presentation is top-notch.

I love this game to the max!

Tatsunoko VS. Capcom is an amazing fighting game for the Nintendo Wii. Although the Tatsunoko franchise isn't very well known in the states, the characters are all easy to use and spark interest towards their storylines. The controls are simple. L M H buttons. Which is all you really need. The only downside is it's a bit on the slow side. I just wish it were faster like in Capcom Vs. SNK 2. Aside from that, it has 2D fighting style we're all used to, high jumping, dashing across the screen, easy specials, fun combos, amazing character selection, and online play to test your might with others all over the world. It's a great substitute for Marvel VS. Capcom 3 for those who only own a Wii. Which is why I bought it in the first place. If you have a Wii, love fighting games like that of Street Fighter, the this game is for you. One recommendation though. Buy a classic controller. It's the easiest to control. Although the Gamecube control ain't too shabby either.Read full review...

Cinematographic and Convenient

The best part is playing a mash-up of new-to-me iconic Japanese characters against a few stalwart Capcom classics.

The worst part is that the ending thrills engage too many black/white screen transitions instead of action sequences or graphics.

The most enjoyable part was getting rewarded with high-level earnings on the easiest setting

The least enjoyable part was discerning what movement commands applied to which special moves. Find your favorite controller and stick with it! That's my best advice.

One of the best!

Love all the games in the 'Vs Capcom' series and this is one of the coolest. It has some of the most unique characters and the controls are adapted to the Wii perfectly. Amazing presentation all around with fantastic graphics and sound. Read full review...

Excellent fun game to play.

This is a very easy game to learn and play. You have plenty of characters to choose from and enjoy. Kids to adults can easily play this 1 or 2 player game. For younger kids (if parents allow it) I would recommend this game over what you see on TV and advertisements. Yes, the game is "Fighting" but it's nothing compaired to the blood, guts, ect of today's video games. You will not find one once of blood or body parts after defeating your character or you being defeated.

I recall some of the characters from my childhood, watching them on TV when I was living in Japan, so trust me, the characters are not new.

Tatsunoko vs capcom is a great addition to the capcom vs series

If you like capcom vs series, then you'll like this episode. For the wii, I'd say it's one if not the best fighting game for the system.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes Review

Gameplay: If you have played any of the Vs. Capcom games I have mentioned above, TvsC pretty much as the same concept and feel to it. You select two characters from the list. During the fight, you control one character while the second character is hidden and waiting. You can use the second character to assist you, help you team up for a few seconds (known as Tag Team) or tag out if your main character is about to die or is seriously injured. If you swapped characters, you now have a fresh and healthy new character to fight while the hidden character is healing. While its healing, it can help you team up.

I know majority wont know how to read the menu since it is in Japanese so here is what the menu means and are pretty much self-explanatory:

アーケード = Arcade Mode
バーサス = Vs. Mode
サバイバル = Survival
タイムアタック = Time Attack
トレーニング = Training
プレイデータ = Play Data
オプション = Option
ショップ = Shop
ギャラリー = Gallery
オリジナルゲーム = Original (Mini) Games

Controls: You can play TvsC with different controllers. You can use the Wiimote and Nunchuk, Wiimote and Classic Controller, Wiimote and Fighting Stick or GameCube controller. I've wondered how TvsC would work out with the Wiimote and Nunchuk combination and I must say, I am very impressed. Usually you have 6 buttons for Light/Medium/High attacks. Instead, you have 4 buttons that control your Light/Medium/High attacks. You use the Nunchuk Joystick to move around while using the A, B, C and Z buttons to throw punches, kicks and specials. 1 and 2 are taunts.

The button layout is very simple. You can throw a fireball, upper cut and other moves on the first try. Although its simple, a button masher can easily end up with 15+ combo.

Graphics: Like any Wii game, you wont find any realistic or high poly count type graphics. TvsC consists of 3D graphics and 2D mechanics with a hint of cell-shading. Nothing flashy but looks very very nice. Pulling off a special shows a 3D animation of your character about to wreak havoc on your opponent. If you're not familiar with Tatsunoko, you wont know who half the characters are. But each character are well detailed and vibrant in color.

Sound: Each character has their own theme song, stage and theme. Songs are beautifully remixed, upbeat and fast-paced. However, I noticed that every a character is switched, the background music switches.

Replay Value: Me personally, I can play this for months. Mind you, I'm the type that will play the same for 1-2 hours, put it down and never touch it again. There are only a certain few that I would play for hours and months. Its hard to keep me attached to the game. But with TvsC, I play this game everyday and have no intentions of putting this game down. You always want to know which characters work well with another character and what combos they have.

Conclusion: Overall, if you're a fan of Vs. Capcom games, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generations of Heroes is a must! You wont be disappointed with this game. The price of the import is a bit pricey but you wont regret it. However, since this has Tatsunoko characters, you probably wont see this released outside of Japan due to licensing agreement with Tatsunoko characters. Hopefully, we'll see a new Marvel vs. Capcom, SNK vs. Capcom or a totally new collaboration. This would definitely be a big seller.

Don't sleep on this one.

It isn't Marvel vs Capcom nor is it X-Men vs Street Fighter, but this is a ridiculously fun game. I have no idea who half the power ranger outfit clad anime characters are, nor do I care. A great tag team style, over the top combos, and just straight up pretty graphics make this a game worth the play. The survival mode is my favorite extra, but this is well worth the addition to anyone's library. Easily the second best fighter on the Wii.Read full review...
