Tales of Destiny II (PS1)

This is an excellent RPG game, unfortunately not enough copies were made and not enough people knew about the game. Nonetheless, you can't go wrong with this incredible game with a great 2D sidescrolling action oriented battle system and multiplayer gameplay (up to 4 people) make this one of the most innovative and fun RPG's EVER MADE, period. There's plenty to uncover sidequest wise and the game offers new challenges after you finish the game, so plenty of replay value going as well. This RPG is easily up there with FFVII as the very best RPG the Playstation console has to offer, and not because of story but gameplay! Don't get me wrong, this game has a very good story it just may take a few playthroughs to get everything out of it and see it for what it is which is a very good story. Overall, this game is a must have for anybody who enjoys RPG's, action games or any 2D game in general. You really can't go wrong with this game, it's one of the best (if not the best) in the 'Tales' series and deserves more recognition of innovating a style of Role playing that is too good to be explained.Read full review...

Classic pedigree RPG for 4 players

Tales of Destiny 2 follows the same basic design as the first Tales of Destiny, with slightly disproportionate character design, not quite chibi style but close, and a side scrolling 2 dimensional battle system. The voice acting is decent, but there are no really awesome animated cut scenes like you would find in a final fantasy. This isn't a game you play to be impressed by, it's more a warm fuzzy RPG fix for us addicts out there. A worthwhile buy if you liked any other installation in the Tales series.

The number one reason to buy this game? It's one of the few 4 player RPGs out there. Tales of Symphonia, another in the tales series for a different system (the gamecube), has the same 4 player set-up. Four controllers can each control the four different characters in the party. My husband, I, and my two daughters (aged 8 and 10) all play this game together. Tales of Destiny 2 is wonderful for a group game, for a party where you have more than 2 people who want to play, but if you are playing solo, the computer controls the other 3 characters according to the instructions you give it.

The plot is similar though not identical to the other Tales games I have played in the series, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Symphonia, and Tales of the Abyss. That is, you are a young man caught in the middle of a sudden change in the world that may lead to the apocalypse. Twin worlds locked together in a delicate balance are about to collide, and a chance meeting with a girl that traveled from the other world sends you hurtling into the middle of the chaos. Can you save the world? Standard RPG fare, but entertaining enough if that is your cup of tea.

A very under appriciated JRPG

Originally known as Tales of Eternia in Japan, Tales of Desity II is one of those under appreciated JRPGs for the Playstation. The story follows Reid Hershel, his childhood friends Farah Oersted and Keele Zeibel, and a mysterious girl named Meredy as they try to prevent the Grand Fall, which entails the violent collision of twin planets Inferia and Celestia. Character development isn't as deep as other Tales games, though I love the character development for the main hero, Reid Hershel.

While the world map is in 3D, the towns and dungeons remain in 2D. While the graphics remain simple for a PS game, the graphics still have improve from the 2 earlier Tales games released on the PS, Tales of Destiny and Tales of Phantasia (released in Japan only).

Tales of Destiny II carries on the tradition of the Linear Motion Battle System (LMBS). Commands are entered in real time, and both allies and enemies act out their orders in real time in the 2D plane. Unlike the previous two games in the series spells are executed in real time. Therefore, spells no longer act as interrupts that freeze time, so spell effects can be dodged and evaded if the player is skilled enough, adding another dimension to the gameplay.

Just like other Tales games, Tales of Destiny II is voice acted, though the voice acting for this game is rather mediocre, but not horrible. The game also consists of an animated opening and animated cutscenes, another trend found in Tales games.

The story, the characters, the battle system, I love everything about this game. I recommend it for those who like an RPG with a good story and for those who don't mind 2D graphics.

Tales of Destiny II

I was always a fan of the "Tales of..." series. I had heard great things about a game called Tales of Eternia, which I shortly learned was remade in the US under the tales of Tales of Destiny II. After completing two Tales game already, I thought the game would be no fun. However, this game is great. The storyline is well-developed, and doesn't change in any way. The characters are great, and become attached to you in a way. After playing other Tales games, I was pleased to hear that in this game, two characters could summon during battle. I was so happy about this, and I wanted the game immediately. If you are a long-time RPG fan, or a new-comer to the RPG group, I would suggest this game. The only problem I had with this game was the voice acting at first. But after a while, you begin to ignore the problem and love the game. Tales of Destiny II is a must get for any RPG gamer.Read full review...

Tales of Destiny II Old School Awesome RPG!

I have played a great many RPGs in my time, and in all honesty this was a great game. The fight with the final boss I can only describe as epic as a skilled player is needed to finish the game. Despite being a Playstation 1 game, the voice overs and animation are awesome, similar to that of Star Ocean the Second Story. This is a very rare game that you probably can only ever find on eBay which is how I originally found it. If you get the chance to play this, you won't be disappointed. It can even support the multitap to have more than one player fight during combat.Read full review...

Great Game!

I've always loved this game!
Though you can't look at it from the same perspective that you look at newer games.
I thoroughly enjoy the storyline and the gameplay. The voice is a little irritating, but over all this game can keep me completely occupied.
I really miss some of the older games, the newer ones are all/only about new and smooth graphics.
