Great Game!

Star Ocean: Till The End of Time is the third series of the Star Ocean Saga. It started with Star Ocean (Super Famicom), then Star Ocean: The Second Story for Playstation X, and here comes this game. The fourth series titled Star Ocean: The Last Hope is on Playstation 3 console.
The game's story is about Fayt Leingod, a college student from Earth having a vacation with his family and childhood friend Sophia Esteed in space. Then the place they're in got attacked by bad guys (Vendeeni) and they have to escape from there. Fayt then landed on the underdeveloped planet, two times, and meet the other guys from 'advanced' planet (Cliff Fittir, Mirage Traydor, and Mirage Koas). To cut the long story short, he found that his journey was not a usual drift-in-the-space scenario (I don't want to spoil anything more).
I've been in love with the game mechanics since the Second Story. The real-time combat, free battle movements (at least the battle field is somewhat large), item creation, and the story is just my hype.
Although the character animation could be quite shabby sometimes, but the graphics are brilliant. The beautiful scenery of the Aquaria Kingdom, the cold, mountainous Airglyph, are animated so that as if we can feel that we're adventuring there. The developer of the games can also be praised for the sound quality. The battle theme is especially cool.
The whole item creation system itself is pretty cool; you could actually make money from your creations (royalty!) as in real life. One downturn is it is so random it's quite impossible to make the item you really want (if you've gone to the guides...).
It's really recommended for you who like RPGs and Space Opera, and a bit of fantasy element.

A very deep RPG

Despite what people say, this is a great game. The storyline in this game is very in-depth, and WILL make you think about things when it is all said and done. The only video game I can think of that is more in-depth than this one in terms of storyline is xenogears. That should say something about the story of this game. The gameplay is also a nice change of pace from other RPG's in the fact that it is all in real time. The only downside is that this game is a tad harder than most modern RPG's, yet I would agree in saying easier than the old RPG's (Dragon quest 1 and Final Fantasy 1 ring a bell). The graphics are great, reminding me of a anime-ish style to them. The sound is good, yet some may complain about the voice acting. The other turn off about this game is that it is a very long game. One of the longer RPG's you'll ever play, and that's just going through the story you can spend at least 80 hours playing it. But it has good replay value in the sense that there are multiple endings depending on which characters you favored more during the game and a very hard secret dungeon that felt like I had to level up to 255 just to go toe-to-toe with the bosses in there.
Overall, this game has a lot of elements from the previous Star Ocean game. I think everyone should play it. It has a very good storyline, and I would hope people don't get discourage just because they are stuck or because this game presents a bit more of a challenge than other RPG's.

Sci-Fi RPG done right.

I originally owned this game when it first came out, but was turned off to it because it was different than Star Ocean 2. Lately I had been really wanting to try this game again, and I'm glad I did. The Star Ocean series does a fantastic job of balancing Sci-Fi and RPG elements in an immersive way.Read full review...

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

It was labeled the best role-play game of the year when it first came out and I have to say that I completely agree with it. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is a great game for serious role-players. You become Fayt, a mysterious youth who gets separated from his family and thrown into a world where he meets new friends, enemies and must learn about his past in order to save his future.

The game play is absolutely excellent! The graphics are vivid and fresh with the all famous anime style. There are many decisions you make during the course of your game that will determine the ending of the game ultimately. The plot is complexed, so much that you end up having to do 3 or 4 other things before you can get back to the main plot you started out with. With so much complexity the game begs the question: What happens next? with every level you pass. And it all leads up to an ending that leaves you breathless, emotional, and wondering.

The fighting is done in real time and you can fight by yourself or choose two other people to help you. You get a massive list of skills and abilities including hardcore full out fist fighting, sword style, or symbology (magic). You can customize your characters, level them up and even unlock codes to change their clothes. You can choose your group that will follow you into battle and dictate how they will battle. You can even switch characters during battle mode so that you don't have to play one character all the time.

There are lots of bonus and secret levels in this game, including one that unlocks an item that allows you to go into a versus mode against the computer or another player. It even gives you a team mode where you can battle with another player against the computer. You can also backtrack through the game and play in other cities, go to other places, etc so that you are never really tied down to one certain place.

Downsides to this game? There are a lot of puzzles and mazes that you have to solve in order to progress through the story. This can get annoying if you are trying to progress quickly. The story is long and sometimes exhausting requiring you to either talk to EVERYONE is a single town or level up before you can move on. The beginning is rather boring in that the game has to establish who you are, who the people are around you and why you are where you are. And on a side note: why can't we get to Greeton!?!

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is a definate buy for any gamer. Even if you have never played the first one, you will fall in love with this game and it's characters in a heartbeat. Definately a 5 out of 5.

This is a MUST HAVE game for an RPG gamer!

Well, the story is really cool, and the characters have great stories behind them. The gameplay is very simple to learn and even if you aren't an avid RPG gamer, you can learn to play Star Ocean: Til the End of Time without much trouble. Basically for special attacks, you hold down the X button or the O button, or the triangle button or the square button. No need for crazy combinations in order to do a lot of damage. You can practically control every character that you can have in your party, if you prefer one character over the others in style or ease of use. Every character has different special moves, but also there are several moves that every character can use, but the best thing about them all, is that they're VERY simple to use. The only thing I noticed that kinda sucks for avid RPG gamers is that they're no ultra powerful attacks. Like no overdrives or special forms or anything. Although those won't matter much, seeing as how the ability to access magic (in this game it's called symbology or runeolgy)is also very simple, along with the simplicity of using items and such. The only major downfall is that it's ridiculously hard to revive a fallen team mate. Unless you go to an inn or use a healing space, you have to purchase ridiculously expensive reviving items, that at the begginning of the game are too expensive to purchase.
One thing that kinda adds to the game (I didn't really see much need for it but some might like it) is that you can invent items and weapons for your characters to use. And if you invent those items yourself from a workshop, you get a few of the item you invented! Although unfortunately it takes a little while before you can actually use a workshop, and once you do, most of your characters can only build or make items that you wish you could have had back when you didn't already buy stronger weapons. I myself saved up a lot of currency to get a weapon called Holy Sword and then realized later that I could build a weapon a little bit weaker than it, for for a lot less currency!
The thing is that the strongest weapons in the game you can usually buy. Also I forgot that you can also sign inventors on and they can invent items for you, but you have to pay for their items, and the price of inventing the items.
And the price of inventing their items is automatically deducted from the money you have on you. One thing that's pretty cool with inventing items, is if you invent the items yourself, you can sell the items you make. And for some of the higher quality items you can get a profit from them.
Another thing I noticed is that the voice actors aren't the best out there, but at least none of the characters are whiney babies. Your main character actually acts like a leader, not a person dragged into a situation that they could not handle. Also the main character actually matures and becomes more and more like a leader, even though one of the other characters thinks he's the leader. One of the coolest things is that you never have to worry about a certain area's monsters growing in power or becoming much stronger the more you level up, so it kinda makes farming(attacking a bunch of monsters that are easy to kill but give decent experience) easier.
Basically your main character is Fayt, and you follow his adventures everywhere, but you don't really have to play him throughout the whole game. I just bought a really strong sword for him and then playing as the other characters was just useless.

A great Under The Radar RPG Game

This game isn't like anyother RPG i have played before!

The gameplay is innovating and solid. The Character cast is very good, with suitable voice acting. The enemies are fair with their own uniqueness of attacks, battle skills, and the Item Creation (IC) is one of the coolest.

The characters are each individually personalized when it comes to speech, attacks and Personal Action's(PA'S). You range from the humorous,to the serious, i-am-the-man personalities. The individual character make-up is made effectively also.

Enemies are made so, though seen in one area and a different color, they are all united to bring the right element for that place. Ruins Of Coffir, home to the Thieving Scumbags is a great example. Then the water oasis in Mosel Dunes has The Aquaragias and they don't move from ot of that oasis. Their battle skills are also well done with some sharing some of the moves. The BOSSES are also the same way, where if you meet an Earth Smasher BOSS, Crystal Cerberus, and Crossel (Dragon) have the battle skills that are suitable for their type, and have mini-thems so you can have a challenging "boss" fight, when in actuality they're regular sought out enemies. See the point!

Item Creation (CALLED IC) is a NECESSITY, when it comes to the later stages of the game. You can synthesis things in your weapons, certain items, armor, and in some cases, an accessory! You can hire a goo 28 or so inventors and then your own people can do it.

Combat wise, you have a STRONG and WEAK attack for, long-range and also short- range. With Fayt(Main Character) you go a distance to have the Long-range, then press circle to run at an enemy and upward slash enemy, followed by another circle button press to do a upwards backflip kick and tap X twice, you then have yourself one heck of a four hit combo.

Con's- Some enemies can get pevious, and some of the things they can do is cheap.
When having the right inventors, not always have a success.
No item known when starting IC can be frustrating.
Computer AI mess ups sometimes with allies.

Pro's- All that i have described in the above paragraph's(Exclude the con's)

I love this game

Star Ocean overflows with action, exploration, fast-paced combat and an intricate plot, which results in an immensely deep gaming adventure. Character development is versatile and open-ended, allowing for true freedom in character growth through battle. The fully 3D battlefields allow players to move freely and control a party of three simultaneously, utilizing the advanced real-time battle system. Players can execute synchronized attacks and collaborate to unleash a deadly blow to the enemy. While moving from one section of the game to the next, fully polygonal graphics create a magnificent environment for one to explore. The multifaceted story is presented in gorgeous CG movies and event sequences. The entire experience in Star Ocean is also enhanced with Dolby Pro Logic II sound.
Set in SD 772, four hundred years since the climactic battle with the ÒTen Wise Men,Ó humans and aliens now co-exist together in both advanced and less-developed societies, as the Galaxy Federation continues to research the cosmos to gain more influence in Space. The story begins as Star OceanÕs protagonist, Fayt Leingod, brings his family and childhood friend, Sophia Esteed, to the Federation-managed resort planet Hyda for a vacation, but the dreamy holiday is abruptly ended when Hyda is attacked by an unknown space military. In the heat of the attack, Fayt is separated from his family and Sophia, and he begins an emotional quest into the unknown to find his loved ones. Along his journey, he gets caught up in the war of an uncharted planet, but in the end, he learns the terrible untold secret about the world and himself.

Star Ocean:Till the end of time

I have to admit..when I first bought it I was a little skeptical. I had only purchased it off of a friend's review. They gave it raving reviews so I had to try it. I admit I was pretty impressed. The graphics and gameplay are great. There are tons of customizing options and there are so many things to do to keep yourself entertained in this game. It is not your regular rpg. It keeps you guessing and looking around the corner for the next turn. However my only dislike about the whole game is that you just get stranded on one planet basically and sometimes the puzzles are a bit irritating and annoying to figure out. All in all though this game gets a good review from me. I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I did.Read full review...
