Great unit for small price

This is a great unit, nice clear sound, decent speakers, full Dolby digital.

A little about me:
I am an audiophile. I love clean crisp sound in all of my audio equipment. I used to have a large, powerful, expensive component unit that I did a heck of a lot of research on, and sounded incredible. However once I got married, the 10 remote controls, wires, and different components drove my wife crazy! it all had to go! I didn't have much cash, and although the equipment was top quality it had a few years on it, so I only got a few hundred for it. The replacement system was on a budget.

I've always trusted the Sony name, and I didn't want to spend my little amount of money on something generic. I found this home theater setup for a couple of hundred dollars at my local big box store, and have been really happy with it...

Pros:
easy setup
good quality
good sound quality
automatic switch form Dolby digital, Dolby pro logic, and 2 channel stereo depending on the input signal
The remote works with Sony TVs and DVD units
programmable sound fields and echoes
Great Dolby digital decoding (your movies will come alive)

Cons:
only 2 inputs
gets loud... but not too loud (most people won't push it's limits)
can only handle 5 channel sound (once again, this is fine for %90 of consumers)
Not a huge fan of the thin speaker wire (especially the sub)

Although you could spend a whole lot more, and get louder sound and more audio channels... why? This unit will do for %90 of the consumers out there that just want a nice, simple, clear and capable home theater setup (and if you have other Sony components... tv, dvd, etc... you can just use the included remote)I've owned for about 2 years, and it has never given me a lick of trouble (which is more than I can say for the 3 generic DVD players I had hooked up to it, until I came to my sense and bought a Sony DVD player)Read full review...

Great Band for your buck!

I bought my system new from Wal-Mart on sale about 6 years ago. I bought 5 speakers 1 subwoofer and the receiver for about 100 dollars. This thing has held up extremely well and I have had MANY years of enjoyment from it.

I am picky when it comes to sound and have enjoyed the quality of sound that comes from this system. I understand that while there are probably plenty of receivers out there with better quality sound, you won't find any of them near this price point. Over-all this is a deal I have been very well please with. It's still running strong today; the original sub, speakers, and receiver all work extremely well.

I have used this unit with my computer, and my tv, for surround sound and for simple stereo output. No complaints here!Read full review...

Nothing Great Here

I bought this system off a friend for 50 bucks. Its purpose is for a bedroom home theater setup.

PROS: it is cheep and compact. Easy to use.

Cons: poor sound quality and a terrible sub. If you admire any sort of quality sound you won't get it here. Sony is known for its average quality. I did a simple sound quality comparison by taking the speakers that came with the system, swapping them from this receiver to my Yamaha RX-V740. Huge difference in how the sony speakers performed. they sounded way better on the Yamaha than the sony.

BTW, I bought the Yamaha on Ebay for 120 bucks.

The audio is not properly good

The video audio in is not working, so I had to connected my tv in the dvd connector.
