This is a perfect replacement for my old unit.

It was great to be able to locate an old product like this. My old unit did not cost as much as
this product, but I am happy with this purchase. Now maybe I can finish copying my old VHS
to DVD's.Read full review...

Seems to be workable.

We had one destroyed by lightning. Haven't really used this replacement yet, but initial set up went OK. It came very, very badly scratched on top a bit disappointing.
We were replacing the same, so fortunately we still had a remote, or otherwise would have had to hope we could find one. Most for sale had no remote. We don't understand why as they are used items. Read full review...

Sony RDR-VXD655

I bought this item so I can record DTV programs as it has a built in ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner. I also bought it because we have a lot of VHS tapes and I can play them on this machine. We bought a new TV for our bedroom about 4 years ago and with the RDR-VXD655 I do not need a converter. I was able to hook up the VCR to my TV and receive all of the digital stations. I liked it so much that I bought a total of four to replace all of my VCR’s. I like to keep all of my VCR's the same because once we learn how the remote works we can program all of them in low light and not have to remember which one is which. So far the only negative thing I have to say is that on one out of the four I bought has a loud fan noise. I also don’t like the fact that I cannot add additional channels without going through the whole channel add process. Sony should correct that and allow the addition of any channel on its own.Read full review...

In over 30 years of VCR experience this is one of the best.

I've been a ardent fan of Panasonic VCRs since introduced in the 80s. But a recent acquisition of a preowned unit proved disappointing so I tried this refurbished Sony unit. It is a VERY GOOD VCR. It meets all aspects of setup, recording, and display with ease and quality. Read full review...

Sony RDR-VXD655 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo

Overall it's a good machine that I glad I bought. Because it can do so many things, it's harder to use and to navigate. For example change a digital channel, you must press four buttons (7 . 1 and set) to get the digital channel 7. Moreover, the stop point when fast forwarding on the VCR continues a bit after you release the button. therefore you need to rewind to find your spot. However you do get super clear HD digital channels with an analog TV and a good antenna.Read full review...

easy to use DVD/VCR combo recorder/player

I bought this combination recorder to replace two other units and specifically to work with my new Sony HDTV. I have not tried to record anything on it yet,but it looks like it would be easy with the on screen programming. It works well playing VCR tapes recorded on another TV. It seems to upgrade them to a better quality. Of course the DVD's play well also. It was a little more pricey compared to the other top rated combo like the Panasonic. I couldn't find it in a local store at the time, but could find it at a eBay store. Nice size, easy to work, functions well and is not tempermental like one of my previous DVD players.Read full review...

Another great Sony product

This is a very nice DVD/VSH recorder. It does just as Sony states in their lit. I found it very easy to use for turning all my tape media into disc. The only draw back I find is the lack of HDMI INPUTS. Having to use coax, component video/audio makes the HD transfers a bit downgraded. Still all in all it is a very nice unit for the money and helps to round out the home entertainment system even if there is still a format war lol.Read full review...

Sony RDR-VXD655 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo

I bought this unit for the HD tuner thinking it would be better that most. It has no program guide or program ID no go back to previous channel function the remote is the worst i have ever used layout is terrible to tune a channel directly you must push so many buttons the process kicks out before you can enter it and you cannot use any other after market remote because it will not program...all my equipment is sony and unfortunatly SONY HAS LET ME DOWN WITH THIS UNIT I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE DVD OR VHS RECORDERS BECAUSE THE MAIN FUNCTIONS SUCK SO BAD I WILL NEVER USE IT...FOR SALE CHEEP !!!Read full review...
