For an "older" model now this is a good camcorder. It is lightweight. It took me a while to figure out how to run it in that I had no manual. It has an internal hard drive and an external card. You can save to either one, you can save from one to the other. It's charging is unique in that there is a built in usb connection that lets you download movies and pics from the drives and also charge the battery. Cheap, small ang lightweight

Before we evaluate this camera is worth a look for its price. It is hardly possible to present some very high demands on the camera that costs less than your average smartphone .
The camera takes up less space than my Samsung NH11 with 18-55 mm lens (or less than the 50-200 mm lens :-)) , and it is much easier.
I use only mode 1080 60p. Image quality in daylight is at quite a decent level. When shooting indoors quality begins to decline . In a well- lit room, the noise becomes noticeable when shooting in the shade or at the approach of dark subjects. However, for home video quality remains acceptable .
The main disadvantage of the camera - a very poor microphone. To immediately get normal sound quality, the sound should be slightly above average. When recording in a room with a TV quietly working on the record clearly audible constant background noise , and the noise when zooming , the total volume of the track at the same time get high. To some extent, this problem is solved in the subsequent processing video, but sometimes you want to immediately see the footage .
Access and navigate menus with a single button - joystick located next to the display . Given the fact that the screen displays the three customizable buttons for quick access to favorite functions , control is obtained quickly enough , even for those that need manual adjustments . While I personally would prefer that the joystick located on the camera body , since changing the settings during shooting is not very convenient.
In general , however, the camera is fine with me . As a basic tool for capturing events I use digital photo camera , so I needed a small inexpensive camera to throw in pocket for a random shooting , usually in the open air , and no more. THE BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK THEORY

The unit is very compact , took a little getting used to. I've only shot about two hours worth of video but so far so good. Comes with a HDMI cable so you can plug right into a Flat screen. Very sharp picture , fills up entire frame on a digital TV. The other supplied cable is a USB which you plug into your computer and charges the camera and also transfers your videos. Dowloaded the "making memories" software from the SONY SITE. Works well. The anti-shake camera steadying feature is a big plus. Different formats to play with. I converted one video shot in AVCHD to MPEG2 so I could load it to YOUTUBE. Quality was very good. Still exploring different options. Very good deal for the moneyRead full review...

i went into buying a handy cam quite extensively before I made the decision i am very happy with my purchase.
the camera is very small in fact I found it hard to believe it could do all it could in such a tiny package.
but it does
the software which you download from the Sony website is very easy to use.
being the first "Handy Cam I have owned it made it very simple to get out and using it.
I bought mine for doing Oral and Video History with the Contact groups in my area at first I was concerned that the sound level might be a problem when recording
my fears of this were quickly discarded when I watched my first recordings the audio was crisp and clean
all in all i cant find a fault with this Item I have not owned another Handy Cam so I cant compare with

Great Camera for the price.

This Sony Camera does HD excellent. It is easy to use but, not for the novice user. If you have used a Sony Camcorder before you will be fine. It has excellent picture and recording capabilities. A large view screen to see what you are recording and does excellent night time shots and recording. Since the HDR-CX230 does record in HD downloading to anything takes a lot more time and hard drive usage.Read full review...
