Product is good but slightly outdated...but can't beat the price.

I really like this unit. I found it for half the price on one of those one day ebay deals so I jumped at it. I've been looking around for a good home theater system without breaking the bank and knew that this was it.
The pros: The picture quality is amazing. I have a PS3, so I wasn't in need of a blueray player, but the picture resolution is near 1080p so it immulates close to one. The sound quality is wonderful as well.
The cons: The set up process was a pain. After opening the box I realized the satellite speakers had only two ways to be installed: mounted on a screw on the wall or on a shelf. I have an odd set up and knew the ones in the back would be too far away and harder to position at the right angle if I put them on the wall. Plus the speaker wires attached are only so long and wouldn't have reached. So, I had to go buy 2 sets of speaker stands for the right setup and had to become creative on keeping them secure since the screws that came with them didnt work. I also realized after I had it all set up that this is a standard analog plug into the television. I have a new television that has a digital sound output and had to do some serious searching for a converter box which I eventually found online at Amazon after returning one or two other converter boxes to get the right one. Even Fry's didn't have the right part. You have to connect it into the television to get the sound out of everything else like the cable box or PS3. Also the sound is kind of quiet which might be caused by the converter box but it was quiet even without it (I hooked it up through the other plugs: red, yellow, white, prior to the converter arrival to test it). I am sure it's for safety, but sometimes it's hard to hear things.

All in all, good unit that is slightly outdated. I wish I didn't have to spend more than just this to get the right setup since this was a temporary setup until we find a house to build in the perfect theater. But I'm happy in the end with my purchase and didn't spend too much in the end like I would have for most home theater systems. Plus...it's a Sony...how can you go wrong. ;-)Read full review...

Nice for the money

It's hard to find a reasonably priced home theater "system" with all the features you want. This one had 90% of what I was looking for. The DVD player plays everything I've thrown at it so far, including "back-up" DVD-R movies.
My biggest disappointment (s) are you cannot tone down the base, adjust the speaker volume independently, nor fine tune the frequency ranges through the equalizer function, and there are very limited audio inputs from other sources. Although the system claims to be 300 watts, when the surround selection is made for movies, the volume seems to be a far cry from that claim. Thankfully I have a moderate size living room. In my opinion, this may not be powerful enough to manage a large room.

Hooking up the system was straight forward and the wires were long enough for my needs. The wires have stripped ends to insert in the input clamps, rather than RCA plugs, which was OK with me. The perimeter speakers are nothing to brag about, but seem to be adequate for the system. All in all, assuming nothing "pops up", I am very pleased with the systemRead full review...

Good item, love the USB port~ which is why I bought it.

Nice enough system. I think that it's great for a "room" that's not grater than 300 sq. ft.

The USB port is great, and is the main reason that I bought it. I like to down load books, my favorite podcast, and I-tunes stuff to listen to it while working. This made the USB port on this sound system the main reason why I bought it.

The sound is good, and while it's a "no frills" system, It does a great jog of filling the 12 X 26 room with sound.

If your a person who wants to "crank" the volume,or if you like REALY LOUD music, than you might want a a system with bit more power.

It seems really hard to find systems that have a USB port or SD card capabilities, and I'd think that MFG's would "clue up" about this deal.

Nice Product

Great product for the price.
Pros: good sound and price. Plus DVD system comes with input connection for auxiliary sound.

Cons: The USB port does not play video files, only pic and music.>

Perfect replacement for our current system

We purchased and loved this same system years ago, it has performed flawlessly until the disc eject mechanism failed recently. Trying to find a similar replacement was not going well from the size, price and feature standpoint. I took a chance and did a search on eBay and found this new unit which was an exact replacement. All good, I replaced the receiver/player and we are back in business with extra speakers!! its great system for the price, i bought it because i didnt like the speakers on my tv and this system changed that, but the only thing i didnt like about it is that it only has only one audio rca input, no digital audio input, so to connect it to my 4k tv i needed converter, other than that its great system and great value for the $$Read full review...

Great value, Great sound!

I knew I couldn't afford a bigger TV, so I brought mine to life by adding this Surround system! The fact that it came with a DVD player, has an FM tuner, HDMI port and a USB slot for my MP3 player made it even better! It is easy to install and has several modes to enhance the sound and/or picture. Nice product

300 watts was not enough to get the sound we wanted. Upgraded to 1000 watt Sony system and its much better. Will keep old system and use it in bedroom or somewhere.
