Six Feet Under 4th season

If you've seen Six Feet Under you are familiar with the realism and the drama surrounding the Fisher's and Co. in their world which revolves around the funeral home they own and what happens after the patriarch dies in the very first episode of season one.

Life moves fast and there is contentiousness and mental and emotional breakdowns and periods of transition handled well and not so well amongst the characters involved. One who is cracking up is later doing fairly well as a more stable character is finding sympathy where they once mocked or condescended as they deal with their own druthers.

The drama continues in this season but when David gets high-jacked by a true sicko, well, let's just say it tops or competes with any of the freaky stuff that has come before.

In a jaded viewers eyes, in reality and what has been depicted in movies and cable T.V. this stuff is not for the weak of heart or stomach. But for any who think this is just shock for shock values sake they are so wrong...it is story driven, character driven and the situations are extremely realistic without any pretense of right and wrong.

There's something here to offend just about anyone. I fast forward or close my eyes during the more GAY moments of affection. If you can't handle the reality of dead bodies being prepped for viewing...well, I don't think that one could appreciate the magnificent acting, lighting, and cutting between characters and scenarios of what is actually happening and what is happening inside of the characters minds.

Never has the juxtaposition of a moment alone or amongst a crowd and the thoughts or images inside of one or many of the character's heads been so vivid and segued with such ease of lighting, sound and silence and then reflect to a standstill. This isn't something to watch if you can't pay attention. You would or could still get a lot out of it. But the strength of this show,(And the fourth season is no exception.) is not only the dramatic episodes but in revealing the depth of the flaws that permeate each character as they wrestle with some of life's, or the afterlife's most difficult struggles.

This is truly ground breaking Cable TV...but if you are not open to the content, (Let's face it, every show starts with a death.)the setting is in a funeral home. Etc., etc., I would think that if you knew someone who could not stomach this you could view an episode together with a friend or loved one and fast forward through some of the more graphic parts or language and find yourselves talking about subjects revolving around life and death.Despite the drama and distress these are real people too.

I know there were attempts to do a show or show(s) like this-I.E.Dead Like Me, etc. but they just couldn't hold a candle to the many elements that made Six Feet Under so darn special.

I've hardly mentioned one characters name or any relationships. And while I believe some received some accolades, and some characters came and went as the main characters revolving around the funeral home stayed...it was the real life ensemble, the realism, along with the great cinematography, etc, etc. that made this show so cutting edge and brought its viewers a true vehicle to vicariously live through these stories and characters.

Almost an out of body experience grounded by the reality; the juxtaposition of life and death. Bravo to its creator and the cast and crew. Bravo.

Six Feet Under - The Complete Third Season

I recently bought three seasons of Six Feet Under (the final one hasn't arrived yet). Seasons 3,4 & 5.

I had heard about the HBO series for a long time and rented the first season from my local BlockBuster store and got hooked on it; wanted to see how it all worked out in the end. BlockBuster only had the first season so I had to look around to find out what other options I had. We don't get cable TV.

I did find the second season offered at Circuit City but it cost me $99. new. That hurt as my funds are really limited. So I started checking out ebay and found seasons three, four and five offered. I was so excited when I won my first auction! That was for the third season! So right now I'me going through the third season at my own pace and it is great knowing that I still have the next two seasons waiting. They cost me much, much less than buying them new and the sellers would often mention that they had viewed the series once so even though the DVDs weren't in shrink wrap, what difference did that make.

I like the various added bonus materials that come on the DVDs!

Sincerely,

A Solid and Enduring Series Worth a Second Viewing

A return viewing of Six Feet Under confirms that it was one of the best drama series on HBO. Strong characters work out their lives in a unique setting that provides a subtext on death and dying through the eyes of the Fisher family who own a funeral home. The series begins with the death of the senior Fisher who leaves two sons, a daughter and a widow to sort out the business and come to grips with their own complicated lives. I highly recommend the series.Read full review...

My love of Six Feet Under

I bought this box set to help me complete my collection of Six Feet Under. It's a very cool series put out by HBO about a family that ownes a funeral home and all the problems families can have. I really like the characters in it and as an fault it's a great show, I would avoid younger audiences due to the graphic nature of the show, language, nudity, and adult Themes. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a filthy word here or there and wants a really good story full of twists and turns.Read full review...

SFU - Season 4

Alan Ball & Co. continue to work their magic in this season of SFU, although I wouldn't say it is one of their best seasons. They seem to fall back on formulaic writing, and do not pound the viewer with the shocking and introspective topics from the first 2 seasons. This being said, Season 4 is a step up from Season 3, which was just a long, drawn-out story about how Nate and Lisa hated each other. I liked how Claire really blossomed in this season, and think that the whole picture is an interesting view of the Fishers in their descent to their Final Destination.Read full review...
