Excellent Twitch Shooter Action

This sequel to the cult classic, import-only N64 original Sin and Punishment stays true to the roots of the original in terms of gameplay styles and nonsensical sci-fi storyline, but the addition of the Wii remote and nunchuk controls adds an effortless feeling as you take aim at baddies with the remote and move with the control stick on the nunchuk. If the player prefers a different control scheme, however, the game provides ample options, allowing for use of the Wii Classic controller or even the Nintendo Gamecube controller.

Take heed, though, as this is one game whose difficulty is not for the faint of heart. Forgiving checkpoints and infinite continues help ease the pain, but for the true high-score seekers, the challenge to wrack up those points and stay alive at the same time can be daunting indeed.

Featuring the wave after wave of numerous enemies and enormous, screen-filling bosses that developer Treasure is known for, this is a must-own game for any fans of old-school arcade-style space shooters. Others might be driven away by the strange Japanese-flavored story, but action seekers of all kinds should find something they love in Sin and Punishment: Star Successor for the Wii.

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - Hardcore Gaming

Let's get the bad out of the way right up front - so we can move past it. The cut scenes and characters are really amateur hour junk. The story isn't too bad, it's a little vague... but the bad character design, graphics and voice-overs just mean you'll feel like skipping them and getting on to the game.

The game itself is phenomenal. Tight controls, great gameplay, smooth graphics (that look better than the cut-scenes by far), excellent camera angles and loads of variety.

It's sort of an "on rails shooter"... but your character isn't on rails, just the camera and movement through the levels. You move the character with the thumb stick and point with the remote so you can have maximum mobility and aim whereever you need to. You have loads of firepower and combine that with swift sword melee attacks when enemies get too close (or close enough). It's really a single player game, but a second player can pick up a separate Wii-mote and point and shoot a second gun (no second player character appears on the screen and player 2 has no powers... they're just there to give player 1 a little more firepower.

This game is HARD. Really Hard. But that's a good thing. There are plenty of autosave checkpoints, so the dying doesn't get too annoying. When you finally improve your skills enough to pass each boss, you'll do a celebratory fist-pump and get a nice rush of adrenalyn. This also made for great replay value and I wanted to go again. The entire story takes about 6 to 7 hours of straight play.

Video gaming is back.

Perfectly Recommended Game

I got the Wii very late and missed all the chatter about good games and bad games. When I look online I always see this title pop up and a lot of people have this on their top for best games on the Wii.
Though different than my usual games, it's an enjoyable arcade-style shooter. It's got a Japanese Video game feeling and also supports Japanese audio with English subtitles (which I thought was considerate, especially for aJapanese Language student) I would recommend this game even not having finished it yet. It's great to pick up and a refreshing change from more common genres.

The best rail-shooter I've ever played

I bought Sin and Punishment because I'm a big fan of rail-shooters. This might be the best rail-shooter game I have ever played. The action is intense and fast-paced. It's the first time I've ever had to use strategy in a rail-shooter game (because you can also use a melee attack with a plasma-sword-thing). Not to mention it's the only rail-shooter I've ever played that isn't first person, so you have to control your character and move him/her out of danger while aiming and shooting at your target. The game is amazing, I wish that I had purchased it sooner.Read full review...
