Great Value

I have had this watch for two months. While it is not expensive it seems to be at least so far of good quality. I have researched the history of Seiko 5s and they seem to have a solid history. You can go to ebay and check out vintage Seiko 5s and see that there are many available as used pieces, still working that are for sale and made in the 1970s and 80s. I have another 5 that is 9 years old and it has run flawlessly and is consistently fast by 13 seconds a day. This watch is accurate to an average of +3-4 seconds per day. It cannot be wound by hand nor is there a hacking feature. But it is water resistant rated to 100m and made for sport activity. It is a nice looking piece that may well last for decades at which time it can be replaced or serviced. The ebay and Amazon ratings are consistently high 4-5 stars and I join that group.Read full review...

This is probably the least-exciting watch that Seiko sells

When I being a bit rough wearing this watch, the spring bar popped out. The whole thing fell off my wrist from a height of about four feet. The crystal shattered terribly and the movement stopped working. It would be cheaper just to buy another one from eBay than to have it repaired. This has a 7s36 movement so I'm not sure whether authorized Seiko dealers will be pleased with your bringing this in for service. The dial is way too big, it looks horrendous for a basic field watch. The nylon band is itchy. Because the 7s36 movement has no hand-winding, to restart it you have to move it around, which causes permanent damage.

I actually did wear this in the shower and to wash my hands. It dried up without any problem. During winters the air usually is dry so as long as you stay warm it shouldn't feel like an iced-over flack jacket for too long. My guess is that the band has a protective water-resistant coating that deteriorates after a while, and that is when it becomes fuzzy and holds water longer than it should.

This is probably the least-exciting watch that Seiko sells.

I love this watch.

This is one of the greatest watches ever made! It is a really high quality, made in Japan by Seiko. It is a series 5 which means it must meet the following 5 objectives:

Automatic – The watch has to be powered by an automatic movement
Date & Date – The watch must feature a day and a date complication
Water Resistance – The watch must be water resistant
Recessed Crown – The watch must have a recessed crown either at the 3 o’clock position or the 6 o’clock position
Durable – The watch must be durable and able to withstand the test of time

This watch meets all 5 items and I believe that I will give it to one of my children when I pass away as a family heirloom, it is that good and it did not cost me $25,000 like a Rolex would.

Excellent Japanese Automatic Watch at Bargain Price

Great watch with a genuine Japanese movement.
Four years ago I bought the same model with a non-Japanese (Malaysian?) movement which ran fine until a month ago, then ran slow, then ran fast (15 min./day).
Considering cost of repair, I was willing to pay 50% more than the first watch cost me to get the full-on original Japanese model and trust to luck that it would be as good or better.
Now, after 1 week's use, it has kept time perfectly.
The watch came with all factory packaging intact - right down to the cellophane and paper tags.
If you want an excellent sports watch that looks good enough to wear with anything less than a tuxedo,
this is a fine choice.

Underestimated

When I received the watch I was immediately struck by it's presents, it really stands out in the crowd,
it has great size that appears larger than it really is but the real selling factor for me other than the polished
lugs and satin details is the heft of the watch it feels like the watch is carved out of one solid block
of stainless steel, it has a feel of quality as well as a unique beautiful design, I own two!

Hardlex crystal not so good

I was looking for and every day watch, i found this Seiko with good reviews, I only have it for a month and the glass is already scratch, I don't use it for work only casual, so I only went shopping to tj maxx, you know, taking in and out clothing hangers to check out whats there, i did saw the time before i when in, and went a came out saw the time and the scratch, I just could not believe it, i have casio's for $30 and are in good shape after working with them for 10hours a day manufacturing. my point is that is are looking for a casual look you should try something cheaper or will have to be taken out the watch every time you suspect handling anything in a daily basis. on top of that you have to invest in a new strap to make it look worth $100, you can not shower cause the strap nylon absorbed the water and keep for hours not great if you live in NYC winters . i can not even recommend for weekends because probably thats when you shop groceries or whatever. i know there are good reviews out, but is better if people where more objective in real life situations, others than "good looking watch" "great size" "perfect weekener" " good lume" etc. you should try the casio diver MDV106-1A, with this you don't have to change the strap, is less half the price, the glass is way better, and its a daily driver.Read full review...

Quality automatic watch that will serve you well for years!

This watch is a quality built, no frills design. The Seiko 5 series has been around for decades and continues to deliver on it's promises. Note: the crown does not screw down like that on a diver watch and that it has a "non-hacking" movement meaning that you can't wind it with the crown knob and that it is wound only by the automatic movement. It also will continue to run even if the crown is pulled out. So, if you don't wear it for a few days you will have to wear it to wind it a bit until running and then re-set the date and time. Not a big deal as this is a daily wear watch. Bottom line, if you are looking for an affordable automatic watch, this should be on your list. You can completely change the look by easily swapping out the 22mm strap for something more stylish. The size is large but not obnoxiously so. I hope this review is beneficial to you.Read full review...

Great Pilot Homage!

Love this watch as a daily wear! The plain black canvas strap is OK, but I replaced the strap with vintage brown leather to obtain a classic "pilot" look. It wears great casual or with a suit. 42mm dial is easy to read for older eyes and the lume is fantastic. Mine runs +/- 10 seconds. I am very pleased.Read full review...
