Roman Holiday is a Holiday for All to Enjoy

Audrey Hepburn is magnificent in this movie. She plays Princess Ann, who leads a boring life as a princess, and so decides to escape for some fun while in Rome. She is found by Joe Bradley, played by Gregory Peck--also magnificent in his role--not knowing her identity at first. As a reporter who was scheduled to have a group interview with the princess, he finally realizes who she is and makes a huge bet with his boss that he can get the story of the century from the princess. What actually happens is he falls in love with her, and thus he would never embarrass the Princess by reporting on her unapproved "holiday."

Even though the movie is not in color, we are treated to scenes in Rome that you hardly ever hear about: the Wishing Wall, the inside of the Coliseum, a mysterious stone face that is supposed to eat your hand if you insert it in its mouth.

Even though this was Audrey Hepburn's first movie, it won her the only Oscar as Best Actress that she ever received. Eddie Albert, who plays Gregory Peck's photography friend, was nominated as Best Supporting Actor. Another interesting fact is that the movie won an Oscar for Motion Picture Story to Mc Lellan Hunter, who was not really the writer; the writer was Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted at this time by the McCarthy machine. This problem was straightened out 40 years later.

Sit back and enjoy Audrey Hepburn at her best (she's always great). This movie is appropriate for all ages and is one that you will want to see over and over.

Awesome movie and family friendly!

I bought the movie because I loved seeing it on Netflix and that Audrey Hepburn was in the movie to play princess Anna(she calls herelf Anya. This is my second favorite next to Ever After-(Drew Barrymore)I feel that Audrey Hepburn is very talented actress, love her personality and being so funny.
I have another reasons on why this movie has rating of 5 because it is very clean not have swearing words and sex.!I do wish these in many movies and it would be more enjoyable for people including me.
Other movies are very difficult to find that that is not involved with swearing words, sex and violence.
Another upside, this movie was made years ago with subtitles and I'm happy about this movie that was created and should be with all movies available for people who need it.
Have great day!

What is a princess doing asleep on a street bench in Rome, Italy?

This delightful, older DVD is exceptionally well acted, especially by Audrey Hepburn, the princess, who breaks out of her royal constraints for a Roman escapade. This is comical, nearly family viewing, except for young children. Teens and adults of every age can smile at the iconic Roman, unexpected scenes. I thought the early staircase choreography was beautifully done. Light, but not frivolous content made this enjoyable viewing, and fully recommended for classic movie buffs.Read full review...

Audrey Hepburn's Best Classic Movies

Breakfast at Tiffany's and Roman Holiday are vintage romantic comedies. At times its's so charming, and 1950's sophisticated. The fashion's all make a huge statement. Some scenes make you laugh and then cry for no reason. Audrey Hepburn is young, slim, and just drop dead gorgeous. I would highly recommend these movies.Read full review...

A classic for a reason.

Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck have an undeniable chemistry in this classic romantic movie. Hepburn sucks you in with her charm and Peck moves the story along with his deliberate manipulation of the Princess. Helping Hepburn with a day of royal rebellion, posing as a fertilizer salesman Peck originally is in it for $5,000 to win a bet with his newpaper editor. That same charm that draws us to love Audrey Hepburn, causes Peck's character Mr. Joe Bradley, to not write the story he had so much riding on. A story of a man's heart and love for a woman he'll never be with, outweighing the convienence of a fatter wallet. It's clean, funny, romantic, and perfect for a first date.Read full review...

Awesome movie, beautiful cast, great performances!

Best movie I've ever seen in my life! This all started for me at an early age watching movies with my mom! She would watch this movie before there was a such thing as cable TV, and through the years; I have watched this movie at least 20 times or more. So now I finally have purchased it and can watch it at anytime. Audrey Hepburn is fabulous! Gregory Peck is an absolute Prince and there's nothing like the chemistry between the two of them! The cast is amazing!Read full review...

The DVD is in excellent condition as a used DVD.

It has no scratches and does not skip at all. It is in it's original case which is also in great condition. The DVD plays as if new. I collect old movies and this is a favorite. The condition of this product as a used DVD us far superior to others I have purchased. The scene in Roman Holiday where Audry Hepbern put her hand into the mouth of truth as Gregery Peck looks on with secrets of his own is priceless!Read full review...
