Good game, but OH so clunky gameplay.

Over all Res Zero is a good game. Believably decent graphics. U can choose 3 levels of which 2 play on. Easy through pro. I like having 2 figure out when u find things in game - what goes where to b able 2 progress in game, so it isn't just killing Z's. The plot is pretty much the same in all Res evils. The only thing keeping this game from being rated a whole lot better r the God awful camera angles u have 2 play using. Res E 4 was a VAST improvement. They finally put the damn field of vision 4 the player where it should b. 2 think this game came out several years AFTER Zelda - Ocarina of Time & Medevil One. Those companies developers were so far ahead of Capcom. In Res 4 it was great 2 see them jump ahead 2 where they should b.Read full review...

Great game, sometimes

I had great expectations for this game. After playing the Resident Evil remake for the gamecube, which is a must have if you own a gamecube, I was expecting the same for Resident Evil Zero. Don't get me wrong this game is great, especially for beginners because you can choose an easy mode which gives you a lot of ammo versus RE1 for the gamecube where ammo is limited even on normal and you must dogde a lot to survive, but RE0 gives enough to shoot down almost every zombie you see, which is cool.
Story 10/10
If you have ever played any of the resident evil games, especially the first one and somewhat like the story, you'll love this game. It answers a lot of the "how" questions. In this game you get to use Rebecca Chambers, from the original resident evil, and Billy, an ex-criminal. Both has thier own weaknesses, but most of the game they are together, so it counteracts.
Controls 7/10
This was the most frustrating part of the game. In the beginning, you have to carry a lot of items and you don't have to much space to do so. You'll find yourself switching characters and inventory a lot, especially if this is your first time and/or you're new to the series. I even had a few troubles and I had a guide. Overall the switching, while cool at first, can be a drag especially because there's so much cool stuff to get, but no enough space to do so.
Graphics 10/10
Gamecube graphics, enough said.
Sound 8/10
Another disappointment. The sound is okay as far as sound effects go, but the background music isn't very scary at all. In RE1 the music had me bitting my nails and wondering what might happen next, this game was so-so at best.
Overall Value
8.5/10
Overall this game was a decent investment, mainly due to the cheap price. If you want a good, cheap game look no further than this game, but get RE4 and RE1 for the gamecube first, as they are better than this one.

Resident Evil Zero

Resident Evil Zero is a great game to own, and it is currently a GameCube exclusive. This game serves as a prequel to the original Resident Evil, so a lot of story is explained in this game. This is the last Resident Evil game to use the classic gameplay system found in the original Resident Evil, but there's a twist. This time around, you control two characters (Billy and Rebecca) to solve puzzles and explore the levels.

I would recommend this game to anyone interested in knowing the background story of the Resident Evil series. If you liked the Resident Evil remake for the GameCube or even Code Veronica X, then you will like this one. In fact, you might appreciate the "partner zapping" system in which you control two characters. However, if you're only familiar with the gameplay system of Resident Evil 4, you might be frustrated with the clunky movement and the lack of action. This game focuses much more on an immersive environment with a few creepy creatures thrown in.

If you enjoy this game, I would recommend playing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii. The characters, story, and setting are revisited in a rail shooter format.

Resident Evil Zero Review

What do I love about the game-

Detailed and rich environments.
Scary game play
Good graphics (prerendered environments)
Challenging enemies
Good story
Puzzles and limited resources (ammo and health) make the game fun.
Easter eggs
ZOMBIES!!!

Things that I dislike-

Controls are a little hard to get used to when you first start (once you get used to the camera angles they are superb). This goes for all Resident Evils except 4.

Not as many bonus features as Resident Evil(Gamecube).

If you played Resident Evil on the Gamecube and liked it you will love this game. If you have just played Resident Evil 4, you may want to borrow this game before you dole out the cash for your own copy. The controls turn a lot of people away. Stick with it otherwise you will miss a great game/series.

Zero gets a five

I'll first start with a fun fact about this game.
Resident Evil: Zero was originally intended to go on the N64 a long time ago, but we never got to see the final product. (You can find some archived videos of it online though.)

Resident Evil: Zero has nearly the exact same style as most of the other games in means of the controls, button layout, camera angles, etc. What makes this one different from the others is being in control of 2 characters and using them for their specific strengths throughout the game.

Billy has a lot more endurance and strength, meaning he can take a lot more damage from enemies than Rebecca; and can push heavy objects and rotate hard to turn cranks. Rebecca can give you the luxury of botany. She can combine herbs to make healing items.

This game can be tough for new players. The inventory of this game is a whole new element. You have no item boxes like in the other games. You have to strategically use your inventory slots. If you need room for an item, but don't have any...you drop an item to make room, that item you drop will be laying in that exact spot, so you need to make a gameplan out of dropping and swapping items in your inventory.

The game has good replay value as well, featuring a game mode called "Leech Hunter" where you search the area you played most of the game at in search for replica leech charms. Get a certain number of leeches and you unlock awesome incentives, that give you plenty of reason to replay through the main game.

Needless to say if you own a gamecube, you need to own this game. One of the must-have titles for any hardcore gamecube and RE fans out there. This game provides a tough, but fun challenge.

A classic...

Resident Evil Zero for the Gamecube or Wii is a very nicely done prequel to the original Resident Evil (which was also an excellent Gamecube remake). The graphics are beautifully done, and the sound is great. Both are very fitting in mood and cooperatively help to immerse you into the world you are playing in. If you have played any of the older style survival horror style games (Resident Evil series, Silent Hill, etc.) then you will no doubt already be used to the directional controls. For me this was not really an issue, being already used to them, but if the game does have an unfavorable point at all, it would be simply the control style. Putting that aside, the game is practically flawless - visually, it's a delight, as well as audibly. The gameplay is fun, challenging, and rewarding. The atmosphere in the game is great - you really feel like you're experiencing a creepy and realistic horror/adventure as you make your way through with your characters. Something unique about RE 0 is the partner gameplay. I was afraid that this would become confusing and overwhelming, having to worry not only about your own character, but also an AI partner. This was also pulled off nicely, however, and gives you full and easy control to take over either character at any time you like, and also allows you to set up default behaviors for the AI to follow when it is in control. Work as a team to solve puzzles and watch out for and protect each other from enemies. If you can get this game for a good price from eBay, I highly recommend getting a copy to hang on to. This one is a keeper!Read full review...

A great, less expensive Resident Evil!!

The game play is similar to Resident Evil 4. I don't like the Resident Evil Umbrella Chronical because you don't have as much control as you did in R.E. 4 for the Wii.
R.E. Zero has some lag in loading during scene changes but that is because of the GameCube itself.
It is move of an adventure game then a shooter game and I like that. You still have tons of bad guys to shoot and kill but the shooting part of the game is limited.
I would take this R.E. over the Umbrella Chronical anyday!!!

The reaosn I bought a GameCube

Let me just start off by saying that I am a HUGE Resident Evil fan. So when I heard that Copcom would only be making Resident Evil games for the gamecube, I went out and bought a gamecube. I am so glad that I did! This game is excellent, well worth the price of admission (and for me, the GameCube itself). I was inrigued to find out how Nintendo would do RE. They did GREAT! I can't believe noone has reviewed this game yet on ebay!

GameCube (and Nintendo) in general are known for thier good, but "cheesy" graphics. Thank god there are no cheesy graphics in RE:0. The Graphics are among the best on GC and the cutscenes are to die for. The controls take some getting used to for two reasons. One is that you can switch between characters and the second is because it's a whole new controller for Resident Evil. But the controls work very well. The music is all new and does a great job of establishing the spooky atmosphere that is; Resident Evil. Even if there are no enemies in sight, the music will make you nervous.

The story is overall, pretty good. It does get a little hokey and unbelieveable at some points but thats what we've come to expect from the series. The voice acting is better than previous installments, but still is off and hillarious at times.

One of the NEW things for this game is the ability to drop items! No more running back and forth to the big item box. Just drop it and look on your map and you'll know where it is! Also because you have a "partner" he can carry items for you as well. Your parter isn't just a Donkey though, he can help you complete puzzels, shoot enemies, and conplete tasks that Rebecca can't do herself. You can also switch between them both. You can run around as him and have her follow or vice versa. You can also command your partner to stay, if you'd like to go it alone at some point.

The game moves pretty seamlessly and is pretty scary. My suggestion is to turn off the lights, turn the surround sound on and enjoy!

Great game

Been building up gamecube collection and this was recommended. Missed out on the rereleases during the GC era so figured why not. Plays good, tells a prequel of sorts to the the 1st one. Defiantly a product of the 2000s though (tribal tattoos on the main charactor lol) but otherwise very good deal. Disc looked really good, case great shape. Would buy from sellar again.Read full review...
