Needs more adjustment

My Proline second tier fit my Proline Z stand perfectly, with a minimum of effort. It matches the stand and is made from the same light gauge tubular steel with stamped steel attachments welded onto it. The major design flaw is that the height of the second tier is NOT adjustable, although the angle can be adjusted. When the second tier arms are at the same angle as the lower Z stand, the second keyboard is about 14” above the lower keyboard, which was not going to work for my live performance rig. When angled down enough to bring the second keyboard into reach (and be able to see the controls), it was nearly vertical. I was obliged to cut 5” out of the middle on each of the vertical supports so the second keyboard could be close enough to the lower keyboard to be playable and have visual contact with the keyboard controls, sliders, etc. The unit is sturdy enough, but there is NO weight rating for the second tier. Another interesting feature was that the cross brace that ties the two upper tier legs together does not expand as far as the lower Proline Z stand does. Fully extended, the upper cross brace is almost 2” shorter than the lower stand, so you don’t have quite the support base as you normally would with a heavy 88 keyboard. But all in all, it was well worth the money despite its drawbacks. Vertical adjustment is a big issue, and now that I know to look for that, I have seen other manufacturers that offer the same style stand WITH vertical adjustments that will fit the Proline Z stands.Read full review
