Great Device!!!! ***but*** Buyer BEWARE...

I have had the Philips RC9800i for about a week now and have been able to thoroughly play with this units features and capabilities. I am very pleased to give the device high marks in device control and capabilities. I want to warn potential buyers - THIS DEVICE HAS LIMITED SUPPORT FROM THE PARENT COMPANY AND FROM MY CHATS WITH PHILIPS, IT SEEMS THAT MOST OF THEIR TECH SUPPORT STAFF HAS VERY LITTLE IF ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE WORKINGS OF THIS DEVICE. I did manage to eventually get through the Philips support channels to a staffer that was able to answer my firmware installation questions and I was off and running. There is built in features (e.g. program guide) that are no longer supported by the Philips company and future support is unknown.

I am in the process of installing a lot of audio and video integration into my home and this device has proven to be a very good product to integrate audio control throughout the home as well as being a sincerely powerful product concerning IR command and control of devices.

If you are looking to integrate beyond IR devices, then you will want to look towards devices that are marketed more towards home control than the simple audio management and A/V device control capabilities of the RC9800i. I am still playing with the more advanced side and with any luck I will be able to template custom "activity sets" instead of being limited to the pre-programmed ones.

In conclusion, this really is a great looking, and powerful IR media control panel. I give the device an Excellent rating in appearance and function (for the features that are still supported) ... but overall, I am going to have to rate the device as Average. Philips has a really nice concept and a lot of good tech in this unit, but really seems as if they have really dropped the ball in the lack of support knowledge and building in features that they were not intending to support throughout the long term. For the price that people have paid to equip their homes with these units, I think the Philips company could have taken better care of their customers and shown a little more care and motivation towards this product. The RC9800i, unfortunately, appears to have been the baby that Philips has "thrown out with the bathwater."

I love this remote, VERY VERY easy to use. I would get this one if you are in the market for one of these. I wasnt sure at first but when I got it it took me maybe 15 minutes to program.

I really like this remote, it is very easy to set up. It has very easy controls. I love that you can listen to MP3 or watch pictures from your computer right on the remote screen!! I wish it had a little clearer screen and a stylus, other than that great product!! Would recommend for anyone looking for a universal remote that has it all.Read full review...

Just another universal remote.

I got this remote because I thought it was going to be like my other Phillips remote, TSU-7000, boy wsa I way wrong. You MUST program this remote using the code sets. There is no customizing to any of the screen, you take what Phillips gives you and that is standard remote screens. My Directv box was not on the remote so I was going to have to program each key I wanted to work. After buying the remote on Ebay, I put it back up within a week.
