Easiest camera I've used, but beware

This camera takes good pictures flawlessly, but if you want instant feedback as to your photo-taking ability, this might not be the camera for you. Plainly, the screen, which also is the lone viewfinder, is not very bright. If you're taking photos outdoors, forget about reviewing your efforts until you get indoors. Even then, the screen resolution is so low that it will not give you accurate feedback. It wasn't until I hooked up the camera to my laptop via the enclosed USB cable (couldn't be easier) that I saw the brilliance of this camera. Nearly every shot I took was a keeper. The colors were spot-on, the focus was sharp and the 7.1mp resolution allowed even the finest details to come through. Because of the viewfinder, it is difficult to frame shots with precision, but obviously that will become easier the longer you own it. I bought this camera because it was cheap via a refurb offer. I paid about $37 and would gladly pay triple that for a camera of this quality. I will be using it as my primary point-and-shoot, and it's remarkable small size makes it perfect for that purpose. I would give this camera an excellent rating if not for the low quality of the screen.Read full review...

Pentax Optio M30 7.1 Megapixel Camera

The Pentax Optio M30 is a great little camera. I was skeptical about buying a compact point and shoot digital after having a couple of other small digitals that did not perform as advertised. The Pentax Optio M30 is slim and light, about the size of a deck of cards. It has a large lcd display screen and user friendly controls.

The Optio has a rechargeable proprietary battery that seems to be more than adequate for taking lots of photos. The camera comes with a recharger. Although it is set up to use SD memory cards, it does not come with a memory card. There is a built in memory sufficient for most purposes, but if you don't like the hassle of hooking up a cable to down load photos, or want to take a lot of photos, formatting an SD card takes less than a minute. The SD card can then be popped out and used in a computer or printer without downloading the Pentax drivers that are on the CD supplied with the camera. The Pentax program looks to have excellent features, but I didn't want to risk a conflict with my current photo program.

The Optio delivers great photos. I tried both the Auto and Program modes set to the same resolution and while the photos in Auto mode are okay, the ones in Program mode are excellent. The camera does a great job of choosing the flash when needed and the pictures do not require enhancing afterwards. The macro and distance settings work fine - better than on other compact digitals that I have owned.

I was concerned about there being no viewfinder as past experience with other digital cameras was that many of them drained the batteries quickly when using the display screen. That has not happened with the Optio. Thus far, I haven't had any bad shots or blurred images, so the shake reduction must be working properly. The camera has a number of settings for sports, pets, etc., so there is no lag between shots. When you take a photo of a moving person or pet, you get a crisp non-blurred image.

I bought this camera as a back-up unit and it has exceeded my expectations. It's hard to believe that such a small camera delivers such great images.

Couldn't be better

The camera came exactly as described and quickly.
I've had Nikon, Vivatar, Sony but past Pentax film cameras led me here.
My preference was a Pentax as a replacement for one that had gotten damaged.
This one came with all the tools needed to take a great picture. The size and weight make it a shirt pocket camera and the picture comes out great. I have not had any issues at all. Oh yes, the battery life so far has been great. Much better than expected.
There are so many featores that I won't get to use them all. I wanted a point and shoot and got much more.

Pentax Is The Way To Go.

We have a Pentax Optio 7.0 MP camera that we love. When we saw the Pentax Optio 7.1 and the price that it was being sold for, we had to get it.
We gave this camera as a graduation gift.
Pentax has some of the best point and shoot camera's around.
You don't need a college education to operate it.
Just take it out of the box, put the batteries in, and you are ready to take some great pictures.
This camera has more than enough options to be able to take the kind of pictures you want.
The only fault if any is that in low light, the pictures come out grainy. All point and shoot camera's have the same problem.
Another great feature of the camera is it's size. You won't be burdened with a heavy camera around your neck all day. Just place it in your shirt pocket and away you go.
You can't go wrong buying any of the Pentax Optio camera's.

Cute complete Camera

I like the speed, quality of the picture. I can carry in my shirt pocket.
It is fully automatic, and can be manually controlled as well. Great macro.
I wish battery lasted a bit longer, and easier to charge. Maybe there is a way to charge with computer, I got to study.
Overall, I am very happy with it.

For my price it's excellent, worth more

I got this used for $35 and I've really enjoyed it. It is small and slick, but not flimsy. The pictures are clear and large, so 7.1 MP works fine. I eventually found a correct charger, battery life is good. My only complaint would maybe be it's a bit hard to hold on to compared to some others I've used. Good product, though. It's pretty good with flash off.

For $80 or whatever it might go for... I don't know, can't comment on the alternatives. Works well with tripods.

Excellent little camera

These camera's are very easy to use, Take good Quality pictures, I have used pentax cameras before and this one is another gem. I fully recommend this camera, if you can get one for a reasonable price, which is also usually cheaper than many other leading brands, and pentax camera's take good quality pictures as well.Read full review...
