Best budget receiver ever. Good but cheap. Find them around $60 these days!

For the price which you can find a 606 these days, well under 120$, there is simply no better receiver around. The 75W is a STRONG 75W. The sound quality is excellent. Has all the listening modes, decoders and connections the average user would need and more. Audio/Video equipment these days is becoming so advanced that even bottom-of-the-barrel gear like this can performs exceedingly well in most people's eyes. Just make sure a few key components are present - HDMI connections, DTS-HS/TrueHD decoding, Audyssey, and you are pretty much good to go. Personally I prefer slightly more power per channel, but again, if you took a poll most common people would hardly notice the difference between 75W per channel and 140W per channel, if they'd even notice at all.Read full review...

Great sound just not loud enough to hurt!

This is a good average joe receiver. I bought it cause i needed a replacement for my 12.2 it does the job. Positives very very easy set up great sound quality. Down side not enough power leaves you needing/wanting more. I find myself turning the volume up almost 3/4 just to listen to music. If you are looking to use this in a small room with good speakers and you don't need your ears to ring when your done this is your box!Read full review...

Great Product!

What is not to like! This is a great unit that was received in mint condition and has exceeded my expectations. One word of warning - plan to take lots of time reading the manual and playing with all the variations/setting/modes/etc. This is not a bad thing, in most cases it is a great thing but just know that you'll want to set aside lots of time to go through all the set up procedures and then all the combination of variables for each and every mode you will be using. I found tons of neat little things it could do that I never knew from reading the reviews and parts of manuals. Unless I miss my guess, that unit will take care of all my home theater/music needs for the next 10-15 years. If you can't tell, I'm thrilled with this unit. I've had Sony tuner amps in the past that have served me well but they were not nearly as feature rich as this Onkyo. So if the Onkyo gives me the kind a service that my old Sony's have, then I'll be happier than a pig in slop and I'm counting on the Onkyo to be trouble free. To help insure this, I've added new surge protected, filtered and battery backed AC power to my new AV rack, something that the old Sony's never had going for them.Read full review...

Excellent Receiver but poor manual

This is an excellent receiver with 7.1 channel home theater system in its price range. SR606 also have 4 HDMI 1.3a inputs which is must these days with all HDTV viewing we do. Other standard features include AM/FM radio, Sirius Satellite Radio Ready. Like many receiver in this category, it has its own Audyssey 2EQ for Loudness Correction, which is a great feature for sound adjustment based on room size. Another cool feature is HDMI 1080i up scaling powered by Faroujda DCDi Edge. With one remote you can handle receiver as well as TV, DVD player, cable box etc. It also has a feature, zone 2 listening, where you can put 2 speakers in some other room to listen to music.
The only drawback I have found so far is, when you use this for 5.1 speakers only. Since it has a 7.1 capability, there are 7+1 inputs for Front right, center, front left, subwoofer, surround right, surround left, surround left back and surround right back. Since I wanted to use only 5.1, I did all front, center and woofer. Now for the back, I connected wires to surround back left and surround back right, However it kept giving me speaker error, I tried many things (changing wires, speakers etc.) but it keep giving error. I called my speaker's company saying there is problem with wires. However even with new wires it keeps giving speaker error. I emailed onkyo but no reply even after 4-5 weeks (I finally have to call and wait for 15- 20 minutes to get an answer). After some extensive internet search, I found that you might have to use surround right and left for 5.1 speakers. It is not explained any where in the manual. SO IF YOU ARE USING ONLY 5.1 CONNECT FIRST SURROUND LEFT AND SURROUND RIGHT EVEN IF YOU PLACE THEM IN BACK. However you can use it as 6.1 as well as 7.1 speakers too. Although this a minor issue, it gave me a HARD time for one whole week. I hope this review help somebody with the same problem. Despite this drawback I still feels this is an excellent speaker.

Just awesome!

I own other Onkyo pieces so I had a pretty good sense of what to expect regarding sound quality. This unit lives up to my expectations and then some. The only missing feature when compared to my Denon is that it’s missing a front-panel USB input…but in the full scheme of things, not a big deal. I still feel like I came out ahead.Read full review...

Onkyo TX SR606 review

I could have give the product excellent based on futures offered on it and ease to use it. But I down greaded it because of its power. Not enough AMPs. My old Onkyo HT-R520 had more power. I never had to increase sound volume above 45. And it was really load. I even felt sub-roofer shaking the ground. This new HDMI does not perform well. I have to increase volume to 55-60 just to hear in normal sound level. Out-put is not powerful. Otherwise, it is very functional, ease to use unit.Read full review...

Onkyo SR606 7.1 channel Receiver

I have been looking to upgrade to a new receiver for about a year.
Did a ton of research and found this to be the most affordable and versitile.
It has 3 hdmi inputs along with an upconverter to 1080i, which is more than enough for any larger tv sets. It has true 7.1 outputs along with a zone 2 option...which then changes the output to 5.1 in zone 1 and a dedicated stereo channel to zone 2. I am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the unit is excelent.Read full review...

If u use hdmi, but don't like alot of wires, this is 4 u

I got this because i got tired of the multiple wires strewn across the room to the TV. with this i have one hdmi cable going to the tv, and everything else to this receiver. Awesome sound onkyo is known for, and you can save by using your old dvd player and upscaling to 1080i with this receiver, instead of buying a new upscaling player. I have a wii, uverse tv, and dvd player all being upscaled to 1080i thru this unit, and the pictures have never been better. Awesome unit, i plan on buying another for my other media room. Also a top-ranked unit over at avsforums.Read full review...

Onkyo TX SR606

It is an incredible unit. I decided to buy a new receiver since the unit I have been using for the last 20 years had no surround sound capability. The receiver also did not have very good reception. The Onkyo is a very hi-tech unit that will serve me well into the future. It has so many features and it will take me quite awhile to explore all of its capabilities. I am very pleased with it.Read full review...
