Great filter for the price.

I was surprised at the quality for the price. It is a good working filter, it works well in half filled aquarium. The one thing that it lacks is carbon which is easy enough to fix. I bought a 2 pk of "S" carbon, cut the coarsest filter in half and replaced it with the carbon. ONE THING OF NOTE IS THE FILTER COMES WITH THE FILTER MEDIA STACKED EXACTLY BACKWARDS OF WHAT IT SHOULD BE. Water enters the top then should go to the coarsest pad, then descending order of coarseness, otherwise the filter is not going to be working at its greatest efficiency. In the configuration I used I put the bio-balls on the top and the carbon at the bottom with the pump. Carbon works best as a polishing filter. Read full review...

Doesn't work!!!

The pump is too weak to circulate the water up through the outlet line, so it does not work at all! so disappointing, I paid 45 CAN and it would cost me 20 to ship it back so im stuck with it. .NOT HAPPY :( Read full review...

CSF 130 Aquarium Canister Filter

The only reason I did not give this filter five stars is because I had to bend one of the metal clamps with a pair of pliers so the lid would seal properly. Other than that the filter has worked quietly and efficiently for several months now. Considering the fact that it is five time cheaper than any other canister filter I consider it to be a GREAT bargain. Frankly, the one arriving today will be the third one I have purchased. I highly recommend this filter because of the price and because so far it has performed 24 hours a day non-stop without any problems. As far as the clamps, simply pay attention to whether they snap into place securely. If not, just bend them ever so slightly with a pair of needle-nose pliers so they don't unsnap easily..

Really love the versatility of this filter!

Really love the versatility of this filter! Great water flow for my 20 gal. long planted aquarium using the spray bar and it is extremely quiet. Bought this to replace my AC50 because I didn't like the waterfall effect and the noise it would make if the water got just a little low from evaporation.

There are only a couple of things that could be improved / included that would have given this 5 stars instead of 4: 1) Better locking clips - they fall off when you open them - not a big deal so far but may be in the future. 2) An adjustable flow valve that connects to the spray bar would have been a huge plus if included.

Moves water well.

Moves a good bit of water, works great for nano setups. Only thing I dislike about it is when taking the media out the water line comes off rather easy. It also ships with Bioballs (the plastic ones) I'm not a fan of these, the ceramic ones are better, so I'd replace those unless you're running this on freshwater.Read full review...

Good priced canister filter

I put two of these on my 75g after moving the tank to a new home. Within a couple hours the water was quite clear. Multiple layers of media and the optional outlet fittings are cool. Water on day two after major move and water change is crystal clear. So far, so good. I will probably be purchasing a couple more. Pics are after a couple hours and they are rainbow cichlids.Read full review...

EXCELLENT VALUE

So this item is NOT the pinnacle of build quality. Some of the pieces are a bit flimsy and it is missing some simple options that I wish it had. That said, it is still the best value for the money, works great for my purposes, and is quiet (eventually). This is my second purchase. It did take me a bit of time to figure out the best way to minimize air in the system (with no built in way to purge it) and the best method I've come up with still requires some coordination and time spend fiddling.......shaking and tipping the filter while turning it off and on by pulling the plug. Even then there remains a small amount of air in the filter for a day or two which causes a bit of noise, but then it is silent. I've used LOTS of other filters which make more noise than this persistently, and few other filters which are as quiet as this one once it has settled and purged itself. Had to turn the flow all the way down for my 10 gallon and all the way up for my 20 long. I can't imagine this would provide sufficient flow for a tank with a larger footprint than a 20 long if used as the only source of water flow. Keeps my water crystal clear in both tanks and I was having a problem with floating particulates in my 10 gallon due to lots of dwarf cories combined with ADA Aquasoil powder substrate. My old school hang on the back power filter did nothing to remedy this. The CFS 130 cleared the water in a couple of hours!Read full review...

Great filter but can be a little noisy.

I put this filter on my 20 gallon long and with the spraybar I get the great flow across the whole aquarium that I was looking for! However I find that it can be a little noisy most likely due to some air left inside after maintenance. The air does leave after a couple days though and is then rather quiet. Pretty good product overall.Read full review...

Great HOB multi-stage filter!

Update: 6-months later.

This a great multi-stage filter!

Cons:
-it’s cumbersome. Needs to be removed and disassembled in a sink or bucket.

-Retaining clips fall off every time I remove cap.
-Aligning the rubber cap gasket is tricky and needs to be done correctly to prevent leaks.

-it’s noisy after you clean it for a day or two. FIX: Turn both flow valves to LOW to give filter enough pressure to blow air out. This will make it whisper quiet! Also top off filter w/ as much water as you can before clipping back on the top.
-the lower filters are super fine material, and get clogged within weeks. I removed them, left the thicker two coarse filters in, and now I never have a flow rate problem.

-the plastic bio balls are crap. Invest in ceramic rings. This will get your biological environment growing a lot quicker.

-it’s big. You’ll need at least 5-inches of space from the back of your tank and the wall. Be aware of that.

PROS:

-It’s like having a canister filter, but it hangs on the back of your tank! Tons of room for filtration and water flow!

-Leveling knob to keep filter upright.

-it’s cheap! Best bang for your buck, and replacement filters are only $8-$9!

-has two outlet head options.

I have a 20-gallon and it’s plenty of flow & filtration for my Guppies!

Nice little filter.

It's compact, has a decent water flow, and it's pretty cheap. I am carving out a space in the lower filter sponge to put some carbon in, or maybe some Polyfilter. The only improvement would be to have plastic screen baskets to hold other filter media, like carbon, etc., that would replace the two sponges.Read full review...

For the price it's worth it

1.23.20 double o rings on everything, everything fits snug like you would want it to. Spray bar or adjustable power head which is nice. I can't confirm flow I just don't have the means to do that. 5 different consistencies of sponge included comes with an ok amount of bio ball but you can add more just be mindful of the space needed for the pump. It's got green tubing but in reality I have a planted tank so it's no issue for me. Up to 42gal tank based on the liter-gal exchange. Cutting your own sponge out would not be hard at all. Will update later if that's the way eBay reviews work.Read full review...
