OCZ's Vertex 4 delivers impressive performance at a great price.

OCZ's Vertex 4 delivers impressive performance at a great price. Thanks to the Indilinx Everest 2 controller, the drive claims a leading spot in our performance benchmarks. We see it perform within 1% when compared to the fastest SandForce drives we have in our test group. It is also only 2% slower than the much more expensive Corsair Performance Pro 256 GB, which is the fastest drive we tested so far.
Initially I experienced sporadic blue-screens while testing the drive with firmware 1.4, but after upgrading to the latest 1.5 these problems went away.
With a price of $200 (after MIR) the Vertex 4 is also leading our price/performance and GB per Dollar charts, making this an excellent drive that does well on all fronts. The only major competition I see for the Vertex 4 is OCZ's own Vertex 3, which offers similar performance, but comes a bit cheaper. Overall the Vertex 4 is a hell of an SSD and it's great to see that there are now alternatives to SandForce driven SSDs on the market.

It will make your computer faster no matter what.

I bought this product as my entry into the world of SSD for my desktop. I installed a clean shot of windows 7 on the SSD and could boot from cold to operating in approx. 32 seconds. The access time for games and video editing is very fast and it is completely silent. I'm certain that hard drives with spinning discs are going to be a dying breed, much like the floppy disk and tape backups of yesterday and the SSDs will be in everything from telephones to laptops to ipads, you name it. I welcome it and consider it to be one of the best improvements for data access, storage, and response time to anything I've seen in a long time. The only reason I didn't give value for money 5 stars is because the price on them are still steep - but they'll come around soon. A *GREAT* upgrade when needing a new hard drive.Read full review...

Fastest solid state drive I have to date for a great price.

This drive is blazing fast, I timed Windows 7 64bit Ultimate to load in 14 seconds from a cold boot. 8 seconds from hibernation.
I get data transfers that go well above 240 mb/s, probably go faster if the other drive is SATA3 as well but it was not.
At less than 250 it is great value.
Drive is stable, I have not had any issue and have owned it for 3+ monthes now.
The 5 years warranty give peace of mind.
I have no compliants about it.

Still Working Great In Late 2018!

Bought one of these for my OS drive in '12 or '13 for a new build at that time, and it's still going strong in late 2018! I've had hard disks not last that long. It's been the main OS and programs drive since then, from Win 7 to Win 10, and has been in pretty much constant operation the whole time. Most amazingly of all is that Acronis Disk Director says it's still at 99% life health!

Bought this particular model because the reviews at that time had it faster than the Samsungs. Frankly it's still perfectly fast to this day. I also bought a 128gb model back then for games storage, Skyrim, Fallout NV and 4, Witcher 3, and the load times are pretty much instant.

Yeah these days 256 is about the lower limit you'd want for an OS drive, but with thoughtful storage of excess stuff onto other spinning drives, you can do just fine with plenty of applications installed. I'm only just now getting ready to go to NVMe for the OS for a 2019 rebuild, and will probably just swap this over to games storage. I don't foresee it dying any time soon.

Fast SSD

I bought two of these for a raid 0 setup and it ranks at the top on a couple different benchmark tests. Performance mark has it around #5. Great performance and good dependability. I recommend vertex 4 highly, specially if you want raid 0.Read full review...

Vertex 4 , if you feel the need for speed!

As an o/s drive its very fast, i would recomend this to any one , however updating the firmware was a bit confusing , the toolbox froze several times and when it did appear to work the drive still reported the same version number, ie, "1.4" with no numbers following the 1.4.
Overall this drive increased performance rating from 6.9 to 7.1 if thats relevant to you.
If youve got the cash to splash this is the one .

Good value but for informed users :-)

The product seems very good at first sight. The long-term use remains a great mystery ?

The black dot is the printed documentation is cally simplistic.

If you do not have another computer to read the documentation which is very, very long on the manufacturer's website, it's complicated.
However, a beginner who attack a to SSD, it must be rare;-)
