Good Lens But 55mm filter

I bought this lens because it has the fast focus motor in it like my 35mm f1.8 Nikon lens. The old one produced horrible noise on videos. This new one is a vast improvement as expected. Now it focuses very quickly with only a small amount of noise. I also liked that Ken Rockwell stated on his blog that this was a very sharp lens, more so than the previous one. So far I can tell you I love the fast focus, but the still photos look the same as from the last lens. One feature I do not like about this lens is it is 55mm filters and not the 52mm of the old one. Many Nikon DX lenses, and all the ones I own have 52mm. So I had to buy new ones for 55. Although I have one other lens on another camera that also takes 55mm, so not so bad.

This lens works well. If you don't care about the focus motor noise on video then you don't need to upgrade.

Maybe the ultimate prosumer camera!

I am a lifetime semi-pro photographer. This is my second 5xxx Nikon and I like the D5300 even better than my D5100. I moved down to the 5100 from larger Nikon bodies, After getting used to the grip I found I could customize the menu to make it easier to navigate, and before long I didn't miss the top screen or the extra buttons.

This is the most sophisticated Nikon ever made! Nikon seems to try out its latest toys in the 5xxx series before putting them in the larger bodies. You get the sensor and focus capabilities of the 7xxx series, but with a pivoting monitor that comes in very handy for hard to get angles. The light sensitivity is mothing short of astounding, and I particularly love HDR. I use it so often I assign it to my function button. This camera automatically switches from still to tracking focus - a neat trick! I originally got the 5100 as a second body, but I liked it so much I used it all the time. The 5300 is the camera I pick up all the time now, and it's feather weight and redesigned grip are nice for carrying all day. I save my shoulder and money too.

My advice is a little different than I often read. If you are just getting started with DSLRs, and you plan to shoot in "Auto", this camera has more than you will ever need or use, but if you are using large, more expensive Nikons, give the 5300 a try. You may find, like me, that you can live without a few extra buttons to have cutting edge performance in a smaller, lighter and more affordable package.

A word of warning and my only negative is that there is a problem with the interface between this camera and some of my Sigma lenses, rendering OS inoperative. I was planning to upgrade anyway, this just forced the issue.

Best value zoom ever made

I am a commercial photographer with little over 30 years experience. I used Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus and Canon gear for both work and hobby. This new AF-P zoom blows all over kit lenses out of the water in terms of AF speed, AF accuracy, VR effectiveness, ease of deployment, weight, compactness and sharpness across the zoom range. Be it on a cheap D3400 or my D500, this lens delivers. Not a pro lens by any means, but it more than makes up the slow aperture and light build by it's unbelievably low weight and dimensions, as well as it's nearly flawless optical behaviour. The only negative being that it will not autofocus at all on older bodies. A must-have for amateurs looking for an easy to use zoom for their DSLR and pros looking for a lightweight sharp wide lens that won't take any space in their bag.Read full review...

Replaced early 18-55 VR (2007); Clearly Better

With the earlier 18-55s, you had to set them to f5.6 for wide shots and f8 above normal lengths to get not-so-bad performance. This lens is tack sharp at any aperture. Great focus speed. If you have a recent AF-P capable DX camera, it's probably the smartest lens to use in any well-lit/daylight situation, in this focal range. VR is good, but expect to use flash for indoor/low-light. Pair with the equally excellent DX35mm/1.8G and the inexpensive DX cameras can do just about anything. (I have a full "pro" rig, but prefer using the little, simple, lightweight D3300 walk about rig wherever possible - most of the time.)Read full review...

Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G Lens

It is the original factory lens. Just make sure that what you order is compatible with your camera! If the camera does not recognize or shutter does not function and lens does not focus there is a high probability that have ordered the wrong lens!
I made that mistake and Ritz Camera employees walked me through the process of returning very professionally and kindly.
The quality of the product, time management and their professionalism is the reason that I will look this company up for my next camera needs.

Nikon's Nikkor 18-55 kit lens

This is a great all around lens. It is a lens that you would probably use most of the times. Great for indoor shots and basic out door (Although I prefer a longer range lens when shooting out doors). The pictures produced by this lens are very clean and sharp, I guessing the camera that it is mounted on also plays a great roll in how good the pictures are, but I used it on a Nikon D7000 and the pictures came out perfectly. Great all purpose lens!!

I really like this lens a lot because I feel it is very versatile. I can take up close pictures as well as some distance with it's ability to zoom. I feel that it produces nice crisp quality pictures which is helped by the updated VR II. Very happy that I purchased this lens and I look forward to many years of quality picture taking with it!!Read full review...

Good value for the money.

Much better lens compared to older Af-s version. Focus servo much faster and quieter. Bit sharper than older Af-s lens.

Lightweight lens with great features

This lens is very light and focuses quickly and accurately. It's small size makes it very compact and easy to carry. Because of this I know I will have it available and ready when I need it. It also produces sharp images and is an excellent all around lens for travel.Read full review...
