Worth the money I spent!

I like the reliability of this router. The wifi is fast and has a very wide range. I love the fact that the range is strong enough for me to use my wireless devices outdoors without getting dropped. I have had to reset it once in order because it kept dropping my signal but for the amount of time I have had this unit, I really cant complain on its performance and speed. I'm able to stream without interuption. The reason it doesn't get an "Excellent" rating is due to the 1 mentioned problem I;ve had with it so far.I bought the unit used due to not wanting to pay full price on a unit that I was not familiar with. I found it on Ebay at half the price that I saw it on a sale flyer. If I had to buy an additional router, I would by this one again. Good for the money.Read full review...

Powerhouse router with gig wired.

PROs: Super easy to set up, great web interface, good range, awesome wired speed.

CONs: Have not found any yet, no problems right out of box.

I bought this to simply be a inexpensive replacement to my old 5 port belkin (F5D7230‑4) that kept dropping off the network. ( plus, it was old (2006-ish) and really ready to retire to the antique section of my collection ) This is a very robust router for the price, set-up is a breeze, and it works exactly the way it should. More than happy with this product.Read full review...

WNR3500v2 is a solid 2.4ghz Gigabit Wireless N Router

*** Note*** This review is specifically regarding the WNR3500v2 (version 2)

+ Great range, speed and performance (due to the 2 SiGe 2597L Power Amps installed)
+ Fast processor
+ Gigabit ports
+ Third party firmware compatible from DD-WRT, Tomato, OpenWRT, etc (due to the Broadcom chipset)

I have always loved and used DD-WRT firmware for its many great features such as vlans, wireless bridging, and pptp vpn capability. I wanted to upgrade my old tried and true WRT54G's at home so I decided to give this router a go after finding it was supported by DD-WRT. I'm using 2 of these at home
which have been flashed with dd-wrt (I never used the stock firmware). The performance is great; I always have a solid, fast, steady connection and no drops, Seriously! I have one router acting as the gateway while the other is acting as a wireless bridge. This works great for me as I dont need to run cat5 cable all around my house to my home theater pc. Also my main router acts as a vpn endpoint so I can acces my network from anywhere. As for the asthetics, I love the sleek black design of the router. I love how clever and informative, and useful the status lights on the front of the router really are. With it you can can tell what port is connected at 100 or 1000mb speed, if and if an internet link is made. As for mods: It would be sweet if you could easily add external antennas via u.fl connectors to the board but that isn't the case, if you choose to do this you'll have to solder antennas directly onto the board. Lastly I like that the router doesn't run hot. If there are any cons about this router is that it doesnt have dual band capability (no 5.8ghz only 2.4ghz) and it doesn't have a usb port to attach storage drives or printers. (however the WNDR3700 does and is supported by third party firmware) Minor gripes aside if you're looking for a rock solid 2.4ghz Gigabit Wireless N Router that supports third party firmware to further exploit and take advantage of all this router can offer then the WNR3500v2 is for you!!!

*** NOTE *** of the 3500 models only the WNR3500v2 and WNR3500L support third party firmware.

NetGear WNR3500

Nice wireless speeds through out the house. Had a little heck up when trying to upgrade the firmware to 1.30 (the worldwide version)(search google), the NA (US) version seems to have bugs that Netgear can't resolve. But once I upgraded after an hour of trying, getting used to, and searching google for the right firmware the baby is doing it's thing. Wireless N is the way to go right now. And for 49 bucks what more can I say.

I rated it as good because of the firmware issue, because somebody that's not tech savy would struggle and think they got a piece of crap when it actually a really good router once set up properly.

I hope this review helps you with your decision!

Good router if configured correctly

The router is quite stable .initially it was dropping the wireless connection a lot , i scanned the other network in the area and noticed most of them to be using channel 10 on 2.4 . I moved mine to channel 5 instead of auto and its been working fine after that.

Remember the parental control feature is there in wnr3500 V2 and this can handle upto two VPN tunnels easy.It also has 1GB ports which is a big plus.
I liked the range of the router too.

This is comparable to the cisco e2000 model.

NetGear WNR3500

This wireless router works very good with Windows 7 Professional. I recently got two of these routers on Ebay one of them is the slightly smaller v2 with the larger memory that can be flashed for DD-WRT or tomato. I never use the installation disc but I can tell you this wireless router works better than my NetGear WGR614v5 that I flashed to the latest firmware. It works better wireless and wired, with my Verizon 3mhz DSL. I try to only use Linksys or NetGear wireless routers to keep headaches to a minimum. This router was manufactured just before Windows 7 an I have read that the installation disc for this router does not work with Windows 7. However if you know someone that can help you install this router there is a easy to follow help file on the right side of your monitor screen when you get pass the admin, password page. I think both of the routers I got were factory re-furbs and used, they work great. Excellent Router. Best I have ever used.

I have used several routers during my years on broadband. The Netgear WNR3500 is undoubtedly the best I have ever used! I have used Linksys by Cisco and it worked fine till it died and service was terrible. I bought a Belkin 150 and it dropped pages, slowed down, and even had to reboot daily. I read many reviews on routers after that slam-dunk. Returned unit and bought the Netgear and have never looked back. Did not need to look back, no problems what so ever. The ease of hook up and configuration was a breeze. The unit itself is very attractive on my desk and looks like a Christmas tree with all the colored lights flickering. I am 100% satisfied and hope that people looking for a good reliable router will read this. It is GREAT! You just can't appreciate a fine piece of equipment till you experience other brands and can see and know that there is a difference. Save your time and money! Buy Netgear high end models like this one for under a $100 and on Ebay for under $50-----Be sure if you buy this model that you get a ver.2 or higher and NOT a ver.1Read full review...

netgerwnr3500

I was upgrading from a wrt54g that had dd-wrt flashed onto it. I really loved that router because of all the options it had after the upgrade. After upgrading to this new one, i haven't noticed any decrease in speed or distance. It is setup in the basement (i know highest level is better) and there is a strong signal throughout the house. I love the gigabit lan ports on it. Will make file transfers between the hard wired computers and server a lot faster now. The faster wireless will be nice for networking the laptops as well once their network cards are upgraded. So far no complaints.Read full review...
