Netgear NeoTV Max Review

I purchased this to replace my Roku because I liked the fact that it can access videos over the network and play them on my big screen TV. It works well for this but other features that are listed in the specs are no longer supported like Facebook and Fling. This was a little disappointing. Also, there's no option to add more channels like the Roku has, again, disappointing.Read full review...

Worth the money but not for a great home cinema system.

I bought the NeoTv SL for its DLNA support, to access my central storage server (NAS). The Google Chromecast missed that option and that’s why I opted for this NetGear model, which supports a wired or wireless connectivity. The WiFi supports only 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4Ghz and no .ac on 5GHz. Video streaming plays smoothly though, with some buffering of maybe 5 seconds twice, during a whole movie. All preloaded video apps works, where 75% requires some sort of service subscription (Netflix, Hulu, …). The Flickr photo app does NOT work at all while Google Picasa goes well.

The SL model comes with an IR remote with a small QWERTY keyboard at the back. Very useful for doing search on YouTube, while it's not really a replacement for web browsing (for that use your smart phone).

My NeoTv SL is connected to an LED monitor through HDMI and video quality is excellent for what I have, and the small investment in a screen and video source (good option for the bedroom).

Be aware that it does not support the full load of codecs out there and I don’t think any device does anyway. Depending on the .MKV compression, some files will run only the video with no audio.

The device is worth the money but is not the alternative for a really good home cinema system (Ex. Sony).

great value and great price

really great item and good source of internet channels for half the price of a roku with full 1080HD. I have used and interface is very easy to use and quick add or remove channel feature. I also can appreciate the remote which has buttons to take you direct to netflix or hulu and the one thing missing is amazon channel.Read full review...

Four out of Five

Very nice addition to our family's home entertainment setup. Streams movies from Netflix, Youtube and other websites. The remote has a keyboard on the back, which says time when searching for the movie title you want. Also streams media from your laptop or computer through DLNA. The resolution is not as good as the other streaming choices on the streamer, but it is still a easy way to watch home movies. The USB input is a better choice for streaming home-made media. So just copy your movies to a USB hard drive or jump drive and the picture quality is much improved over DLNA. Overall a very good addition to our family's entertainment setup. I would give it 4 of 5 stars.Read full review...

Easy transaction, will buy again.

I simply love this product. It is perfect for older TV's that aren't internet ready All you need is a TV with HDMI input and you are good to go. The unit doesn't take up too much space (3.62 x 3.62 x .098 inches) and the set-up is quick and simple. You are able to connect to Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Pandora and Cinema Now. The only thing I would add is the ability to play Amazon Instant Video- other than that I don't have any complaints. The streaming is flawless. The can get up to 1080p HD streaming and connect to your router wirelessly. You can also download an app and use your phone as a remote or use the remote that is included in the package. At times, there is a few seconds delay when using the remote to pause, play, rewind, etc. However, I may be experiencing that delay because of my internet connection. Also, please note that you will need to purchase the HDMI cable because it is not included. Overall, this is a great product at a great price!Read full review...

A Hi-res Internet Media Streaming Device

Works better (so far) for streaming video entertainment and educational content than my (2006 model) Blu-Ray/DVD player! The video and sound quality is better than practically anything else made available to the market prior to its release. Once having taken the few relatively simple steps to set it up, I don't see how anyone would be disappointed with purchasing this device.Read full review...

OK - But Annoying that WIDI generates/requires new passcode every time you connect ...

Windows 10 "Conveniently" saves the identification and associated passcode of each WIDI device connected to. The passcode is hidden on repeat connections and not modifiable. The only work around I have found is to go into Windows 10 Settings/Control/Panel/Devices and delete the device so that it presents itself as a new device each time.Read full review...

Works well but not a full web browsing smart TV adapter.

Bought this so I could have "full web browsing" as the description stated. However that is not the case unless you have a Windows tablet that can accept the Microsoft WIDI app. I wanted to use an Android phone or tablet so this did not fit my purpose. Other than that it does let you watch movies and other entertainment. I tried it on You Tube and I was able to watch full movies there with good sound. Also the remote keyboard is rather tiny and with my aged eyes almost unusable unless in bright light. The other side with the 4 way and other reverse, fast forward, pause and stop buttons is adequate. All in all it is a functional addition to your entertainment endeavors but not a full "Smart TV adapter".Read full review...

Perfect product for folks like us that don't own other "smart" devices.

Love Love Love this device. Allows our TV with HDMI access - only - to receive many options such as Netflix, Games, Hulu, Music, YouTube etc. We did need to find the perfect "spot" relative to our TV to receive the maximum MBPS. We have internet and a modem but had no way to transmit a wireless signal in our house. We don't have any of the "smart" devices, as we are older. So this little "box" is the perfect answer for us. We can watch Netflix on our flat screen TV with nothing more then this NetGear Media Streamer.Read full review...

The easy use and setup of the Netgear NTV300SL Digital HD Media Streamer.

The NetGear NTV300SL Digital HD Media Streamer is a great unit. It works very well for me. Easy to setup and use.It only take up a small amount of space. I bought one as a gift for my wife and she loves it. The keyboard on the back of the remote is very convenient. I believe that if you try this unit you will also like it. Thank you Netgear.Read full review...
