Strong and Tiny and Sharp and Light - Nitecore NTK05

Micro Folding Scalpel ?!?
Think of it more as an folding exacto knife as it basically uses the same style of blades. It comes with a #11 scalpel blade. I think that is the only real negative is that for the price it should come with at least 1 or 2 replacement blades.
But, it is way stronger than it looks. The pivot is nice and tight with no play. The blade securement is nice and solid with no blade play. And when I say "no play" I mean zero.
It is soooo small, but folds out to a usable.
It will actually allow any #3 attachment style blade but only half of the 20+ scalpel blade profiles are small enough for it to close.
I have tested #10, #11, and #12 (again it is designed for #11) and they all work fine. #12 blades are hook shaped. Good for cutting leather, and they allow the Nitecore NTK05 to close to a safe amount so I have one set up with that.
If you need a super package openner/box cutter but are around people who are scared of knives then this tiny thing is super discreet and sharp as it gets.
The only thing I cannot tell you is "long term" as I just got mine a short time ago.
But again, very sturdy. I expect it to last a long time.
Oh...
One final thing. Blade change is tricky and scary unless you have some micro needlenose pliers handy, but this is true with any scalpel. Just sooo dang sharp it will cut you for looking at it wrong.

Creative design, minor flaws, overall very useful

I accidentally cut myself once with a scalpel while stripping the insulation from a large electrical cable. It was significantly worse than a normal knife cut. Ever since then, I have had to be extra careful with my fixed-blade scalpel, which does not have any intrinsic way to enclose the blade.

This one is much safer. It can be folded compactly when not in use. This makes it much less scary to transport across a room for a task, and much less prone to accidentally cutting or stabbing oneself with it while it is sitting on a table during work-- it is completely harmless as long as it stays folded.

Apart from that, the design is aesthetically appealing, and I could see this being a decent option for a super-compact pocket knife as well.

It did jam once when I tried to fold it, due to very limited clearance between the back of the blade and the hinge. It also once failed to close completely due to slight flexure of the blade causing it to close onto the side wall instead of into the blade housing groove. So the tolerances are maybe slightly too tight. A little bit more slack in these areas would be helpful-- just a fraction of a millimeter.

Anyway it's still a very useful upgrade over my fixed-blade scalpel. I feel safer using it for a wider range of tasks, and it is vastly sharper than a typical pocket knife (as all scalpel blades are).

Tiny

It is a very nice tiny little knife.
But you have to put a lanyard on it I’ll put it on your keys.
I had mine in my pocket with my cell phone and being as light as it is the magnet in the cell phone pull the knife out of my pocket and I found it twice but the third time when I realized what was going on it was goneRead full review...

Versatile

I am a healthcare professional so i have lots of time with surgical blade inserts. This thing will hold other types . So far it works[closes] with a 15, 10, in addition to the 11 it comes with. I wish it could hold a 12 blade closed but that would make it less streamlinedRead full review...
