Good monitor at eBay prices
This is something you might want to look at if you're like me and don't want a wide screen monitor. It is a 4:3 viewing ratio, like a square monitor, and can be rotated from landscape to portrait.
I got mine for $100. NEC is still selling them for $462 on their web site. For that money, there are better monitors. The Contrast ratio is much lower then current monitors on the market, but it's not bad. The viewing area is very good, with a max resolution of 1600x1200, plenty of real estate for multiple windows. The colors are good, but unlike other NEC monitors I have used does not have the gloss screen, which I find better for photo work. Still, the colors are sharp and clear. If you overdrive the Sharpness control the screen can get grainy, but a middle setting should be good for most users.
The one I got for $100 was in Very Good condition; a few slight blemishes on the screen, but only noticeable when the screen is Off. It is a bit heavy; hopefully that equates to Well Made.
BTW, look at the model number! A 2080UX is made in Japan, and a 2080UX+ is made in China. Kind of wish I had known this before I won it, because I like Japanese made goods. Still, it appears to be an overall good monitor, especially at eBay prices. And if the quality is as good as other things I have had from NEC, it should last a long, long time.Read full review...
Great solid monitor at a good price.
I already had one of these and bought a second on Ebay to go with it. There are newer monitors available, but at the price these are available at, they are a great buy. I've had my first one for four years without any loss of picture quality - that's with it running as a daily machine. Not the brightest monitor but good for calibration and very good response time.Read full review...
