nice external unit, very flexible but you need to be prepared to learn routeros

I bought this in preference to Ubiquiti as I like the hands on routeros supplied. Packaging was environmentally friendly, the included antenna looks adequate and the POE injector and power supply 24V just work. The unit configured well in a test bed using my normal home wifi as the "marina" wifi access point, with good instructions and support via the mikrotik forum (no user manual just a quick start guide). Power over ethernet works and voltage required is in vehicle ranges (8 to 30 volts). After a few tries that failed due to not understanding limitations of wifi bridging in this unit, it worked fine and should work on a pole out the back of the boat when I get to her. I am using the unit with an ASUS DSL-ac68U via an ethernet port and have a static route setup to allow everyone to use the unit. This is alongside a usb 4g modem for most of the internet access needed. As the ASUS uses a funny voltage (around 19V) it will eventually be replaced with a 4G modem router (?teltonika rut955 as I cannot find a mikrotik with similar capabilities, the rs485, gps and MQTT broker look most promising for remote monitoring and power requirement is very low)Read full review...
