An easy move up from XP

To me, a computer is just a tool to get something done, not a play thing. I've long since outgrown toys. I'm very old school. I don't have a tablet, or anything starting with the letter "i" or even a cell phone. If someone is happy being chained to one of those gadgets good for them. I cherish my freedom. I don't want to have to relearn everything all over again. I don't waste my time surfing the net or playing games. I actually have a life to live past this stupid keyboard. So Windows 7 was a nice improvement over XP. It was no effort to pick it up. When I fell for the free Windows 10 upgrade, it seemed to me that Microsoft pulled a fast one on this old coot. All my work files ended up in "read only mode" and no one, even Microsoft, could figure it out why it happened or how to fix it. So I reverted back to Windows 7 and disabled their constant reminders to upgrade. Windows 7 works for everything I need to do and is comfortable to use. It fixed a lot of the annoyances of XP without introducing any new ones.Read full review...

This upgrade is for you!

Have you been wondering whether to chuck your old Win Vista computer in favor of something more up to date? Since Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft and especially since many websites and apps won't run properly or at all on Vista, this upgrade could be for you. You get to use your reliable but slightly out of date computer, and you get to keep all your programs, documents pictures and files because this Win 7 upgrade package allows you to upgrade from Vista with everything in place! No need to back up and then reload everything. Wow, what a gem of a deal!Read full review...

It works!

The product is indeed what it was claimed to be: a never-used original retail package for upgrading from Vista to Windows 7.

I needed to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 because Microsoft support for Vista is ending on April 11, 2017, and I did not want to buy a new computer. For $95, I can now use my computer until Microsoft support for Windows 7 ends in another three years, and, if I want to keep my computer beyond then, I can upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Installation and setup were basically simple. However, I did run into an immediate problem: You're given a choice of updating Windows 7 first and then installing it (recommended), or just installing it without updating it first (not recommended). I chose the recommended option to update first and then install. However, when I did so, the "downloading updates" screen just ran indefinitely.

After doing some research online, I cancelled the updates and went back and chose the not-recommended option of installing Windows 7 without updating it first. With this option, the Windows 7 upgrade installed smoothly.

The next issue I encountered was that after installing the Windows 7 upgrade, I needed to download and install, I think it was, about 300 updates to Windows 7. This process took a very long time. It required a lot of patience.

When the updates to Windows 7 were finally downloaded and installed—voila!--everything worked perfectly! Moreover, everything on my computer, both programs and the internet, works much faster. It’s like I have a new computer!

Windows 7 upgrade

I upgraded my computer from Win Vista. I followed directions very closely and had Microsoft scan the computer prior to upgrade. Also performed a backup of files. Follow directions and everything went OK. I can now upgrade to Win 10 at no charge but after reading several reviews I have decided to stay with Win 7. The upgrade took several hours so don't be in a hurry. Win 7 doesn't have an email program so after some research I installed Mozilla Thunderbird with support from my internet provider. I also use AVG virus program which has to be disabled during the install. My computer runs much faster now and can support many of the newer sites that are available. One Happy Camper! Good Product for upgrading your old Vista

Very smooth installation.I only couldn't run the installation with the option of getting of all updates for installation and let the windows updating run after the installation was completed. That was maybe my PC's issue and had nothing to do with the disc.
Now my 10 years old HP-Desktop running so fast as if it was out of the box, knocking on wood!

Product works perfectly

Attempted to install without connection to Internet - NOT NOT recommended though some reviews did fine. I have an older computer that had some minor problems with Vista Home Premium that never affected me using my computer. Thing is Vista is no longer supported so that even when you get the correct version of Windows 7 (my case Home Premium) to update Vista Home Premium, snags to installing can happen anywhere along the procees. I had a significant problem due to Net Frameworks version 4.5 that only by persistence and reinstalling 2x was I able to break through. Then entire process called for a lot of self education of Net Framework. My tip to everyone: there are no short cuts to success anywhere in life and especially computers. So install this (and all products) as recommended after all the developers know the program. Those of you that did it without internet were just plain lucky; you might not get so lucky next time. The seller shipped promptly and the only thing I would have liked is a response to my 1st notification of my problem. In balance however, there would probably not have been a problem if I had installed connected to the Internet. This lengthy review is more as warning to others.Read full review...

Update - do not choose the updates...

I chose the updates to come with the upgrade. After 3 days of scanning and no installation, I stopped it and upgraded without the updates. When I did that, welllllllllllLA, installed right away. Windows 7 updated for about a week using the normal means. Then all went wellRead full review...

Review Windows 7 Home Premium

Allowed me to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7, which then allowed me to download Windows 10 from Microsoft for free.

Pros: Now my computer is faster and has more features (although those features are never used).

Cons: Missing the "log off/on" feature and have to either shut down or restart in order to activate Network Internet access but that could be something I might be able to resolve if I knew how.
