SUPER EAST To Use With Pre-Loaded US Maps!!!

My husband swears by Magellan so we bought the 3100 for my 26 year old daughter for her birthday. She had never used a GPS before but within 5 minutes she was driving to her destination with her Magellan 3100 to help her. I love the fact that the maps are pre-loaded, unlike it's competitors. We turned it on and off she went. Entering a home address was simple and easy. The voice commands are perfect. The GPS allows you to choose a detour button if you get stuck in traffic or there is an accident ahead. You can choose the shortest distance, with freeways, without freeways ... all of which are extremely helpful and necessary herein Southern California. The GPS alerts you with a tone when it's time to make a turn and you can adjust the volume to suit your needs. There are useful POIs (points of interest) such as ATMs, shopping, etc and the GPS will take you to the closest one, if you like. The saving of Previous Destinations will prove to be a very useful tool.

I don't know what more I can say other than you should definately consider Magellan over the others out there.

Very Accurate - Missing some Features

Bought this as a replacement for a stolen Mio 230.

The Plus Side - Maps are FAR more accurate and unlike the Mio this does not go crazy when you leave a mapped road. The Mio forces your icon onto the nearest road and/or keeps resetting, this just keeps track of where you are. The Satellite signals are 100 times better. On the Mio I would be lucky to get 5 signals outdoors on a clear day. On this unit I can get 7 sitting in my living room on a stormy day. The on-screen instruction are intuitive and much easier to learn than the Mio though there are far fewer features in terms of customizing you preferences.

The Minus Side - Graphics are not as easy on the eyes while driving and the turn by turn on screen directions can get a little confusing. More importantly, for the professional user, this does NOT have the option to locate a property by coordinates. Also, the input keyboard is ABC order which is extremely annoying after you have gotten used to qwerty keyboard on every other device you own. Lastly, re-routes are very slow, causing you to have to pull over in some cases and wait for the directions to load.

Overall, a great product for the beginning or casual GPS user. However, for the professional that relies on extra features, the Mio may be the better alternative for the price.

Great GPS for the money

Bought the 3100 about 6 weeks ago. Works great for what its intended for. Once you figure out how to turn off the simulate route feature its great. The biggest problem I have had is powering the unit with the front cigarette lighter in my Cadillac. The 12V charger/adapter will not work in the front lighter for some reason but works fine in the rear door lighters. For short trips you can use the 3100 with the internal battery. For longer trips I will need to find a work around to keep the unit plugged into the vehicles electrical system. Paid $139.00 for the 3100 with free shipping. Even acquires a signal inside the home so trips can be planned without going outside.
Would buy again.

Navy Town Life Saver

My son is in the Navy in a new city, and I got this for him for Christmas. My husband already has one, and we like it. You don't have to have a subscription to use it - once you buy it, you don't have to pay any fees. You can get traffic info by paying more, but it works fine without it. It is pretty easy to use, and pretty accurate. I also got one for a son who has an I phone, but he is going to sell his because he did not need another gps item.
My Navy son loves it, only problem is he couldn't find the Navy commissary, it does not do military base addresses.

Good basic GPS

I bought this because the original one that I had broke. It is a good basic GPS and it gets me everywhere I need to be. It is very easy to use and is quite reliable. I would highly recommend this GPS based on the reasonable price and its simple functions. It does not have all the add-on features as the more expensive models, but if all you need is accurate directions, this is certainly the way to go.Read full review...

GPS-Magellan Maestro 3100

For the price I paid ($180), I think it's pretty great. Extremely easy to setup and use. (That "plug & play" feature is lovely.) I like that if you choose to not follow the mapped route, it adjusts for where you go. My only beef is that it tried to have me turn onto an on-ramp for a freeway which was actually a 'No Right Turn' - or pay $250 !! Other than that, I love my new GPS. I know there are fancier models out, with wider screens (this has the 3.5"), but I'm very happy with my purchase.Read full review...

Gets the job done

I Used my Magellan Maestro 3100 Car GPS on my recent vacation. We traveled from PA To Florida. (952 miles one way). Took no maps , only this gps. It was a great system. The volume was loud enough to clearly hear the directors voice . The screen was nice and crisp looking. It auto adjusts to daylight so viewing of screen is always visable. We entered at least 20 locations while traveling and it lead us to every single spot no problem. Very nice GPS. Comes with a mounting system that is tough. Tough enough to hit some hard humps and bumps and not flinch. If you don't need every bell and whistle and just need a reliable mapping gps system I would say this gps will do the job.Read full review...

Lost and Found finder

Like all GPS's... they are good for those lost in unfamiliar areas or trying to get to a place where they don't know the streets. I found that using the GPS I bought takes me out of the way sometimes and would go a round about way to get to the same location. If you choose "shortest route" it wound take longer to get to the same place and "fastest route" might not use highways as much although the highway route would be faster. Over all, I would say it's a good item to have in the car. It certainly beats trying to read a road map. Just touch the screen and go!Read full review...

best gps.

This GPS has been used by myself and a few others. I feel it is extremely easy to use and almost impossible to miss a step. It automatically dims at night, warns you 2 miles ahead of your next move and even shows a close up few of your upcoming maneuver. the only thing i could say negative about it is the battery life isn't very good. but I always have it plugged in, simple fix to such a minimal issue.

hope this helps.
