Good starting resource...but you'll need others

As some other reviews have noted, if you don't have a previous version, or other data books from Hornady, Sierra or Speer, then you should buy this. I would rate this as a 75% solution. Does have some additional useful information for beginning re-loaders. For example, I found I had to check on-line resources for more complete bullet and powder combinations for Winchester powders that I prefer. Also, a little over priced compared to the 49th edition that is still available. I did not have the 49th edition, so I can't comment on whether the new version is really worth the money over the previous edition. Read full review

You need Old Manuals in addition to this Handbook !!!

I expected more load data, especially for 300 Blackout. I'm guessing from what others have said, that these are only newly formulated loads and you would almost need all the "old" manuals to have a bigger variety of load data. The foreword information is helpful and great for someone getting back involved in loading since there has been a lot of changes over the years. I'm hoping this book will give me a close reference and then I'll just have to inquire online with fellow loaders and powder manufactures. Oh well, so much for busted bubbles.....LOLRead full review

Great manual!

This is the first Lyman reloading manual I purchased since I bought my first Lyman,45th edition, in 1981.I used it extensivly and used it to learn how to reload, with my dads help after a stint in the military. Been reloading ever since. This new Lyman 50th edition is of great quality and very informative. It has many new powder listings, easy to use for the beginner and with safety in mind should be a must for any body's reloading inventory. I highly recommend the Lyman 50th edition!Read full review

Very nice up to date Manual

I've used an older Lyman manual for years with great success. This 50th edition is an excellent update on reloading information, methods, and current data. Content is very easy to use, and is well organized, with lots of useful information for the beginner as well as the old pros. I'm sure this manual will be well used for many years to come.Read full review

The best information and easy to use.

Lyman reloading manuals are one of the finest in print. They are an absolute must for any reloader, experienced or beginner.

Every new addition includes up-to-date information on popular cartridges - both old, and new - along with articles on reloading equipment, cartridge components, technical information, and, above all, safe loading procedures.

No reloader's library is complete without one!

Lyman Reloadiong Manuals are a Great Resource

I needed an updated reloading manual. Been using the Lyman 46th edition too long. My older powders were discontinued. Got the 50th edition to see what powders I needed to switch to. Very helpful with a good diversity of components listed. I discovered that the Speer reloading data available online generally has different ranges of powder charges for the same powders than the Lyman 50th edition shows. Suggest using both. I like Lyman's reloading manuals and have several for shotgun loads too. Its a great resource. Ive learned a lot from them since I began reloading 46 years ago.Read full review

Made a mistake

Made a mistake in ordering an new edition over my old edition which I loved. But was disappointed because the new edition dropped several older cartridge's that I reload for from the book. I guess I'll have to eat the shipping and resell on eBay. Back to my 20 year old well used and abused addition. I still like the lyman manual, but if you are old school and reload older ( dare we say unpopular today) calibers and don't shoot overrated new calibers, don't waste your money. Buy an older copy on eBay for half price. If you don't have any other copy, lyman is still one of the best informative manuals out there so buy a copy.Read full review

Lyman's 50th

This handbook is a great resource. A ton of very good information is given throughout. I was very pleased with the format and layout of the information. many great additions compared to the 49th version. I was hoping to find some information on powder coating bullets, but none was given. Overall I'm very pleased to add this to my library.Read full review

This Lyman commercial should be free!

I am so disappointed with this purchase. Lyman had some really good manuals and I based my decision to purchase this one on their old manuals. I will say that it is a decent instructional for any beginner reloader looking for some basic instruction. What really turned me off is that nearly every sentence of the how to section points you at Lyman products. If you did everything by the book you would be purchasing more than what an average handloader would ever need and all of it exclusively Lyman. Much of the load data is old and does not follow powder and bullet manufacturers' current data. They even suggest that their Lyman cast bullets are superior for accuracy. Boo!Read full review
