can a girl in "trouble" fall in love? OUTSTANDING~

PLOT: Steve McQueen is a footloose Musician after a "few too many" at a party has a one night stand with LOVELY Natalie Woods a "good girl" and she ends up pregnant~

SLEEPER~ I came across this by accident and it is one of my favorites~ NATALIE WOOD is a pretty and shy Macy's sales girl ALONG WITH McQueen who had a few too many drinks at a party and ends up having a one night stand ~~ McQueen who "barely" remembers her~ but the "results' are an unplanned baby~ what is she to do?~ he is NOT a marrying kind of guy~ and abortion is illegal~ but Steve is a wiley man and finds an illegal abortionist and "borrowS" the money and sets up Woods for the "procedure." This is well done with we see step by step how they had to sneak around and horrible place and event is to take place~ WE are scared for Woods who at the last minute cannot complete the "deed" and Oddly enough McQueen shines as he helps her escape and we see for the first time THAT HE IS MAN ENOUGH to realize that sex is more than just a physical event it has life long results and the story is now more UPbeat when we see McQueen falling in love with Woods~ Can this young couple find happiness let alone will they do the "acceptable" thing of getting married? MCQUEEN is very good and we do not always LIKE him but the changes we see in him give US hope~ Woods is pretty and totally likeable in this one. WOODS RECEIVED AN OSCAR NOMINATION FOR THIS ONE AND IT WAS WELL DESERVED~ not a typical love story but one where 2 people fall in love after the fact~

I GIVE A SOLID 10 OUT OF 10 FOR WRITING AND ACTING~ too bad we lost these two wonderful actors so early in their careers~

Great 60's Movie

This was always one of my favorite all-time movies since I first saw it in the theater. I think it conveys a lot of the emotions of the time very well and those who see it now will understand the horror that abortion was back in the sixties. The acting is superb and Natalie Wood should have received the Oscar that year. Steve McQueen was, well.....Steve McQueen - the ultimate in cool. Although it would have worked in color it's better in B/W because of the mood it brings to the screen. It was a time when film-makers could tell a compelling story that built to a satisfying ending and do it in less than two hours. A lot of things are better today, but this movie helps us remember and understand that everything isn't.Read full review...

This Should Be On DVD

I have loved this film for many years, and I've given up waiting for the dvd. This is a wonderful film a little before its time starring Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen. Wood was even nominated for an Oscar. Considering the numerous releases of other titles, this is truly a shame. This is a very wide film, and it is available on laserdisc. However, these are scarce and costly. Come on Fox - wake up!Read full review...

I have always wanted to purchase this film.

It's a pure classic..McQueen and Natalie at their best! The story is timeless..totally romantic and I love Tom Bosley and his family in it. the dinner scene is one of the best. I'm so glad I can watch it whenever I want to!Read full review...

Love with the Proper Stranger Movie Classic

A great classic movie I saw years and years ago.
I loved it then and loved it all over again after viewing it recently.
Two iconic actors that you simply can't take your eyes off.
They just don't make them like this anymore.Read full review...
