Lost in Space TV Series

Lost in Space is a science fiction TV series created and produced by Irwin Allen, produced by 20th Century Fox Television, and broadcast on CBS. The show ran for three seasons, with 83 episodes airing between September 15, 1965 and March 6, 1968. Lost in Space was the second of Allen's four science fiction television series. The show's first season was in black and white, and the second and third seasons were filmed in color.
Cast
Doctor John Robinson (Guy Williams): John is the expedition commander, a pilot, and the father of the Robinson children. He is an astrophysicist who also specializes in applied planetary geology.
Doctor Maureen Robinson (June Lockhart): Maureen is John's biochemist wife. Her role in the series is often to prepare meals, tend the garden, and to help with light construction, whilst adding the much needed "voice of reason". Her status as a doctor is mentioned only in the first episode.
Major Don West (Mark Goddard): Don is the pilot of the spacecraft and is frequently Dr. Smith's intemperate and intolerate foil. There is a romantic interest in Judy Robinson which is never developed on screen. In the pilot, West was also an astrophysicist and expert in interplanetary geology.
Judy Robinson (Marta Kristen): Judy is the oldest child. She planned a career in musical theater, but went with her family, instead.
Penny Robinson (Angela Cartwright): Penny is the middle child. She loves animals and classical music. She acquires an alien pet she names Debbie (To viewers, quite obviously a chimpanzee wearing a fur hat). The chimp made one sound, "Bloop", and is sometimes remembered by that name.[2] Penny, however, named the creature Debbie.
Will Robinson (Billy Mumy). Will, the youngest, is a child prodigy in electronics. Often, he is a friend to Dr. Smith when no one else is.
Doctor Zachary Smith (Jonathan Harris): Doctor Zachary Smith is ostensibly a specialist in environmental and intergalactic psychology, is actually an enemy agent (these roles are dropped early in the series). His attempt to sabotage the mission strands him aboard the Jupiter 2. He begins as sinister, but while never losing his self-serving qualities, he evolves into passive-aggressive, often cowardly and effeminate behavior as comic relief. He frequently trades barbs with the Robot and Major West. He was often portrayed as the typical 'mad scientist' of science fiction comics.
The Robot: The Robot is a Model B-9, Class M-3 General Utility Non-Theorizing Environmental Control Robot, which had no given name (Jonathan Harris once jokingly suggested the robot be named "Clawed"). Although a machine endowed with superhuman strength and futuristic weaponry, he often displayed human characteristics such as laughter (usually at Smith, thus provoking the latter's rage), sadness, and mockery. The Robot was designed by Robert Kinoshita (whose other cybernetic claim to fame is as the designer of Forbidden Planet's Robby the Robot) and was performed by Bob May in a prop costume built by Bob Stewart. The voice was dubbed by Dick Tufeld, who was also the series' narrator.

Lost in Space - Season 2: Vol. 1 (2004, DVD)

Good, clean entertainment. A bit hokey, but fun. The kids love it too. This was a favorite weekly show of mine when I was in junior high school, and I wanted my daughter to see the evolution of sci-fi in my generation. To my surprise, she loved it. She couldn't get enough. I enjoyed going through the episodes again too. They are rather mundane compared to the sci-fi shows of today, but they are definitely entertaining. It is nice to see a totally kid appropriate show too. No blood, no inappropriate language, no sex. It is also nice to see that kids can be entertained without these features.Read full review...

Get Lost and Spaced Out for Season Two

This boxed set of Lost in Space Season Two Volume One has some good episodes that are entertaining and fun compared to the 2nd volume of season two. If the two sets were sold as one boxed set like Season One, then the rating could vary as compared in various volumes of this boxed set.
But after blasting off from the planet that kept our family stranded in all of season one, the same Jupiter II crashes (thanks too Smith also) here and drags out until the end of season two.
The Robinson's still however continue to meet some fascinating space aliens and are flushed down the intergalactic sewer as always because of Dr. Smith.
There is one episode called WILD ADVENTURE where the green lady from the green dimension hypnotizes Smith into doing a space walk with her. The Robinson's are seconds away from blasting off for earth entry, but because of Smith being out of the way in space and drifting away and the lack of fuel for the flight change: are forced to make the coarse change to rescue Smith and without efficient fuel for a coarse correction to return on coarse for earth. It's Major West who opposes the flight change and points out what a worthless burden Smith has been for the duration of the Robinson's mission and should be left out in space. The Robinson oppose this because of ethnics and morality...and so it's Major West who performs the space walk to rescue the drifting Smith.
This episode did have a REAL MORAL message behind it too see that even though Dr. Smith was a useless human being, the Robinson's could easily have been rid of Smith, but instead, showed TRUE HUMANITY, (thats what alot of us as a race lack today) make the rescue thus loosing the chance to return to earth!
The episodes that had merit of Season Two, volume one had:

1. Wild Adventure (see above paragraph)
2. The Ghost Planet (Smith does it again thinking another planet is earth!!)
3. Prisoner's of Space ( A court date for the Robinsons)
4. The Android Machine (Dr. Smith new credit card gets him in trouble)
5. The Deadly Games of Gamma Six (Dr. Smith in the WWF at it's worse and to gain riches!)
6. A Visit to Hades ( Judy needs her diaper changed)
7. The Wreck of the Robot (anyone have craftsman tools as aliens make the Robinson's machines turn on them!)
8. The Golden Man (Thanks to Dr. Smith's golden touch, gets the Robinson's in a war of two alien leaders, shows that outer beauty isn't everything!)

Irwin Allen's "Lost in Space

I loved watching Lost in Space as a kid. When I saw the season 2, 16 color digitally remastered episodes I had to buy them. Seeing those stars, Guy Williams, June Lockhart,& the rest of the cast was a great feeling. The quality of each episode is exceptional. I would recommend purchasing these discs to anyone that enjoyed the Lost in Space series. ~Al from RI~Read full review...
