Still one of the best

I've had this remote for many years and recently purchased a second one for another TV setup. The remote fits my hands perfectly and it's very easy to learn the layout of the buttons and to locate individual buttons without looking at the remote. And there's always the "glow" button if you need lighted buttons. The buttons have excellent tactile feedback, and the IR signal is strong. The remote is easy to program with the desktop software.

The only negative is one can get tripped up with the "PIC" and "SOUND" buttons if pressed my mistake. Doing so changes many button functions and can be tricky getting back to the desired activity.

But overall, this has been my favorite remote for a long time.

Great Value Universal Remote

Got this for $45, performs perfectly for my simple needs....watch TV, play DVD's and Cd's and listen to radio through a home stereo system connected to Direct TV satellite box. I interfaced a Samsung 58 in plasma and Blue Ray Player with a Pioneer vsx 01txh receiver and it worked perfectly the first time. The buttons are on the small side and you need to become familiar with button positions, but my wife has accomplished that and loves the one button approach to turning everything on and one button activity selection. Individual remotes are stored away! I couldn't see spending $$$$ to get something a little more impressive that couldn't do a better job for my needs. I particuarly like the Harmony software...very simple and easy to understand and use. This remote should satisfy the majority of individuals looking to simplify their home theater controls.Read full review...

Fantastic Compatability but Small Buttons

The Logictech Remotes have a vast database of remote codes and even had some obscure ones like Hauppauge and StreamZap. This made programming very easy since I did not have to learn any commands.
<br>So Good Things are:

- On Screen Display 6 buttons or Title and 4 buttons
- All Buttons programmable except Sound, PIC, Device, Next, Glow and Activity Buttons
- Program GUI is easy to use once you figure it out
- Very Good IR Range and Wide Angle (The remote does not need to be aimed very acurately)

Bad Things are:
- Buttons are too small and difficult to see at night even with the remote in glow mode. The PLAY, Stop, Pause and FF and RW buttons are really hard to read at night.

- Buttons Sound and PIC should be progammable.

- Logitech does not test any of their products for use with people over 40. This is a very dangerous marketting strategy.

Logitech Harmony 670 Remote easy to fix after dropping!

This remote was a refurb that I purchased, mainly to work with TIVO and everything else in our home entertainment center. Had it for about a month, and my wife dropped it on the tile floor and wouldn't work right, and reprogramming wouldn't work or replacing the batteries. I took it apart, and put it back together and it worked fine, apparently the battery contacts got out of whack, the battery compartment isn't soldered to the PCB, and once it was reseated after taking it apart it worked fine. Not much to go wrong, the PCB is one piece and it seems to be pretty durable in the case. So if goes wacky after dropping, remove the four screws, take it apart, and pop it back together to reseat the contacts onto the PCB. Somewhat of a poor design on the battery compartment
Good remote, I had to customize it a little through the software, but overall a good product for the price I paid.
Would give it an excellent except for the design flaw on the battery compartment.

Replaced all 8 of my remotes! Wow! Very happy!!!

Pros: One remote to rule them all!
Cons: Once I understood the power of the Logitech approach to the activity control and remote configuration - I was a bit disappointed by some inflexibility it its setup. Or, perhaps, I just haven't learned all the options yet. Also I wish there was more description in the manual or help that explained the overall functionality of the remote - it took me quite some time to figure out how chosen devices and activities correlate to the programmable buttons on the LCD screen. Once you understand the philosophy of its design - you can set the thing up in minutes, but if you are a new user - expect to spend several hours fine-tuning this remote to your liking.

Overall - I am very happy, after some initial frustration. :) I can now push 1 button that turns on bluray player, sound system, movie projector and dims the lights in the room. Push the other button, it turns off the projector, the sound system, turns on the TV and lights, push third button and it sets everything up to play Wii. It does not control Wii though, you have to use Wiimotes to turn Wii on and off. And every time it shows me my favorite buttons on the LCD screen that I want to be readily available to me for that particular activity. You can program 6 button on that screen but you have 6 virtual pages in there, so you can have up to 36 buttons preset for each activity in addition to standard buttons on the remote itself.

In other words - I do recommend this product if you are more or less technically savvy and do not mind spending few hours tinkering with the setup.

logitech harmony 670

When spending this amount of money on a universal remote, I expect a product that performs as advertised. And I expect it to be user friendly, but this remote control didn't provide me with either. r> First the commands "Watch TV", and "Watch DVD" are not practical. When you you push watch TV or watch DVD, and one of the devises are not on you get stuck in some frustrating rendition of musical chairs, one turns on one turns off, and it goes on and on. If the devises were always in the on or off position that you wanted, then it would work out OK but life with multiple entertainment devises doesn't work like that. For instance, if you were watching TV with your cable box/digital cable, to watch a DVD you would need to turn off both your TV and Digital Cable via the OFF button. Then you would need to push the Watch DVD button...PIA. There should be a simple devise button for the 3 or 4 main devises that people have ie...Digital Cable box(PVR), Audio Receiver, DVD, and TV. That way there would be a quick access button for each and you could simply change the input on the TV and switch back and forth from TV to DVD. Furthermore, about 40% of the time the remote gives a wrong command or not a full command which brings me to the "does not perform as advertised issue."

Situation #1:
Lets say all of your devises are off. You come home from work and want to watch the game. You grab hold of your new expensive Logitech remote control and key the Watch TV button. The Cable Box turns on but not the TV. You didn't do any thing different from that last time that you used it, but your dancing with the remote because now when you key the Off button to fix the problem the TV turns on and the cable box turns off. now you must get up and turn on the devise manually or key a number of the soft keys to get where you need to be.

Situation #2
You want to watch a movie. So naturally you key the Watch Movie button. This time both devises (DVD player and TV) turn on, but for some reason the TV is not at the right input setting for DVD. You know that you programed the remote correctly because the Watch DVD Button has worked correctly before, but sometimes it seems to do what it wants, and not what you programmed it to do.

This remote would be much better if you could select which devise you wanted to turn on or off. It would also be much better if it responded the same way to your commands every time. All in all, I give it 2 1/2 of 5 stars. The only reason that I did give it 2 1/2 stars is because it does have potential. The ability to program the exact model # of your devise into the remote via your computer is a good feature. Most remotes have generic programs that are not specific to you model #. The ability for the Harmony 670 to read your original remote control and copy its commands is a valuable feature that you cant find in less expensive universal remote controls.

I hope this was useful in helping you find a remote to control your home entertainment needs -JSRead full review...

I just replaced this, having used the exact same one for many years still want it.

I have just replaced this, having used the exact same remote for so many years I can't remember how many. I have replaced it more than once before. Still want this remote. Easy for ME to use, since I know it so well. Not that easy to newly program the thing the first time, but can be done. I have found after I get beyond 2 or 3 activities and devices, it begins to get complicated, and may screw up some of the settings (unless it was me). It might be best to delay any further devices and activities after the first 2 or 3, and then maybe it will work fine.

not quite intuitive, but very good overall

this is my first foray into programmable remotes. i never liked the 'universal' remotes that just turned things on & off but didn't do anything beyond basic functions. i bought this after seeing a review on 'parent hacks', and i'm having good luck with it. the software wouldn't load on my mac, so i used a pc i have access to, and that worked fine. after a couple of days, i wanted to put in 'sleep' on the tv and 'replay' on the dvd - this was easier than i thought but took a long time to figure out. by that i mean that the controls were already programmed in and i just had to move the order they showed up. doing that wasn't hard once i figured out what i was trying to do. so the take-home message here is that this remote takes a bit of tweaking to get set the way you want, and that tweaking takes some fiddling & figuring out, but isn't hard.Read full review...

Excellent Universal Remote Control

It allows me to simplify turning on home entertainment system devices. For example, I can press on button to turn on the Tivo, amp and TV on the correct video input or for watching a DVD it sets the TV to the other video input.

The buttons are a little small and take some getting used to. Programing is easy even though it did not have my particular model of Tivo in the database.

The price at Target was $90 but I got it from a small outfit in Shanghai China for $45.

Product Review

I own a Phillips 47" flat screen. The remote does control the tv, but the response time tends to be much slower than average. I'm not sure if this should be attributed to the tv or the remote, but I would think the later, as somtimes the tv won't turn off until I've hit the "off" button several times. I like the features on the remote, and am sure that as I add more products, I will appreciate it even more...especially if they function properly and promptly. This purchase was a refurb, so that might have something to do with the performance as well...perhaps buy a new one. Good Luck! I would buy again, just new next time.Read full review...
