Received the remote today.. it was new!! I took it out of package and clean it up!! the batteries were missed up! set the remote up with Logitech..twice!! The remote is bad.. the only thing that comes up on the screen is "welcome to your remote" I've changed batteries & pushed every button on the remote and will not do anything else. I'm not new to this type remote. I have several that I have had for several years. I understand everything is a gamble, if you would like to make it good or what. Read full review...

OK remote for simpler systems.

It works good if your system isn't overly complicated. The remote case was sticky (an age thing), but I was able to clean it. Doesn't play well with my ROKU TV. Not a great value for the price, but it is good. Does not work with the upgraded MyHarmony app, and the features are limited with the software it comes with.Read full review...

Logitech Harmony® 550 LCD Remote Control

Good product, if you have ever set up an old school universal remote before you may or may not like this one. I like the idea the remote sets up your Activities, Watch TV, Play DVD etc automatically. Once you are done here you can move some functions around on the Activity that display in the top screen and buttons and you are good. If that is all you want to do this remote rocks.

Here are my gripes. First, once you set an 'Activity' you can't really make it truly custom, you pretty much set by what Logitech thinks. I have tried to get the discreet on and off to work in the Activities correctly for my devices but have not got it to work properly. It really doesn't allow you to tweak anything in the execution of an Activity. I think higher end models do but this one does not. I do like that you can put any device's codes into any button on the remote for that activity. Unfortunately I have found myself hitting the system off and starting over using Activities.

Second you can't program a different device’s remote code into a different device. You can learn it in but you can't use the logitech IR DB to do so. If you have something that you seem to do a lot and it spans multiple devices you are sort of hosed. Then getting back to the activity without the discreet On Off codes working will fubar how the system running.

I paid $60 for this thing and I think I got a good $60 product. I would say I am pleased with it and will continue to use it. Maybe I'm just not the best with the application that set this thing up yet. I see myself at some point just using it to grab the discreet codes for a more configurable remote in the future. I think if you have never had a good universal remote before, you will be pleased with this. If you have used really good universal before you might find how Logitech sets up the remote's activities too limiting.

Logitech Harmony 550 Remote

I bought the Logitech Harmony 550 remote mainly for my wife to be able to operate my complex A/V system with a few button pushes. I settled on the Logitech Harmony 550 remote after reviewing many reviews. I like the remote, it has a lot of features, some of which I have yet to program, but overall, it's easy to program, and easy to use. One thing that can be an issue is that it sometimes "forgets" which components to turn on, but a simple push of the 'help' button, and following the on-screen instructions can fix that in a hurry. Overall, a nice remote, in a nice package, at a nice price! I'm happy with it!Read full review...

Excellent Remote - One slight glitch

Ok, this is a great remote, and it does what it says it will do. There is however one small glitch. It is supposed to have a motion sensor inside it that controls the "glow" or backlight function. These sensors apparently commonly go out. I didn't even know about this issue until I started reading online about it. Also, on mine, there is a defect in one of the chips and/or sensor that allows the "glow" to stay on until you manually press the glow button to turn it off. So, if I forget to turn glow off, it burns up batteries. From what I have read, this is a common defect. Apparently, Logitech will replace it at no charge, which is nice. Other than that minor issue, I love this remote and have been able to retire the original 4 remotes that came with my equipment. Also the programmable interface is intuitive and easy to use.Read full review...

My 2nd 550.

Great price & very good condition. Programming the remote takes awhile. You'll spend a good amount of time tweaking your component & activity settings. Stick with it until everything is working the way you want and you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.
PS My dog chewed on my 1st one and while it still works I thought I'd like to have a back up. The newer ones cost way more and I don't need one that will control my thermostat or start my car.

Excellent remote, awkward and clunky web software

I love the Logitech Harmony 550 remotes; they control practically piece of equipment that uses an infrared remote control. Hundreds of devices are preloaded into Logitech's online database, and you can manually train this remote to learn from other remotes if your gear is not in the databases online already.
I like using the learning mode to add a few buttons to gear that is already in the databases (AppleTV classic and DISH PVR). The AppleTV class and DISH PVR are already known devices, but not all buttons came pre-programmed, but it was easy to add them. The remote uses a standard USB cable to connect to a laptop, and Logitech Harmony software you download from the web for free or install from CD and then update online. The remote is awesome, fits in the hand nicely, and is easy to program for multiple actions with the press of a single button.

The web software is another matter, it is cumbersome and awkward, it is a poorly designed GUI interface that is a huge pain to use, and it takes a staggering amount of patience and time to get the remote working; but once it is... the remote is simply beautiful in operation. One lovely feature of any remote of this type is that if a small child gets the remote and manages to re-program the buttons; you simply plug it into your laptop and re-install the saved settings from your last session. Presto, the remote is back to normal.

I like this remote so much I bought another for my basement. The profile of each remote is stored on the web, and you have to add a second account for a second remote (which is annoying, and that solution did not jump into my mind). Once you do, you can program the second remote to work with a new stack of gear and behave the same way.

Plan on burning most of a day to first program each remote because the web software is so cumbersome; but once programmed the remotes work like a dream. One button starts my receiver, tv, and source device (DVD, Blu-ray, AppleTV, VCR, LaserDisc, DISH PVR, Tivo) and turns everything to the correct settings and channels, then the volume controls the receiver, the channel the tuner (tv or dish as appropriate), pause the Tivo/PVR, etc... all very naturally.

These remotes burn through AAA batteries pretty quickly (we get 4-6 months under steady use out of each charge on our Eneloop rechargeable batteries.

I love these remotes. I'd love to completely redesign the cumbersome web-based software; but I like having the configuration backed up to the web or a PC.

Great deal for the money

Overall, this is an excellent product for the money. It was easy to set up using my computer, I just had to write down all the model numbers of my components before I started, and how they were connected. The logitech 550 works very well, and controls my DirecTV just like their remote, which is very convenient. I dont like the size of the buttons, they are a bit small for my husbands hands and he sometimes has trouble pushing the right button to pick either Watch TV or Play a Game. Other than that, it's a great deal compared to how much to others cost and it works perfect. I would recommend this controller.Read full review...

Great remote with somewhat complicated software

The remote itself is very good. Controls all of my audio/visual components easily and has replaced 4 other remotes in the process. Accompanying software can be a little diifcult to use, however. It took a call to Logitech's customer support line to iron out one particularly persistent glitch. (Support, by the way. was excellent.) One other minor complaint. I have two Logitech universal remotes (an 880 and this 550). Logitech seems unable to list both of my remotes under one account, forcing me to maintain two separate accounts (with two separate account IDs and passwords). Trying to remember the proper login for each remote can prove annoying when attempting to update or alter the settings on either one.Read full review...

Nice Remote!

My main concern when purchasing this remote was whether or not it would be able to control advanced functions on my devices, as opposed to only being able to change channels, control volume, and turn on/off devices. To my relief, it is in fact able to control every function. I use the 550 to control a Sony receiver, Comcast digital cable/dvr box, and Samsung plasma TV.

Almost everything about this remote exceeded my expectations. It looks nice, it feels relatively sturdy, the texture and feedback is great, and the functionality is excellent. However, it would have been nice if this device was designed for recharging. I've had this remote for about a week and I'm anxious to see what kind of battery life I get out of it.
